Reception and veterinary assistants were lovely. I think the surgeon and vet should take compassionate lessons from the staff and learn how to listen to owners. After paying for unnecessary procedures that were not discussed we were left out of pocket for $372 with our consultation fee being waived due to the ordeal still leaving us out of pocket of $172.

Our dog had the end stages of Laryngeal Paralysis (Which we didn’t know at the time), we knew we had to do something otherwise she wasn’t going make it through summer. We got told by our vets that the procedure was about $2000 for a simple tie back operation, so we had some hope she might have another couple of years with us when we arrived at the clinic.

After meeting up with the surgeon our hearts were shattered into pieces and we experienced a nightmare day. Our dog was panting but in a way I knew was manageable, she was panting a little more on the day as she was nervous about being at the vets. It wasn’t good breathing but that is why we were there to see what we could do for her. We told the surgeon she was ok but he insisted sedating her and putting oxygen on her. I knew how to relax our dog to calm her and relax her breathing but he wasn’t listening to us. Before we knew it he had her on a lead and he muttered these words – ‘she won’t even walk on the lead she is that bad, I need some help to move her’. I was horrified he got my already nervous dog put her on a lead and expected her to be led away from her owners (She was scared). I don’t know if he picked her up or got assistance to move her to the table but those words upset me and the staff new I was upset as well, I was in shock on how we were treated.

He came back and told us that he didn’t want to take her off the oxygen because she was that bad and said it will cost about $1000 for the sedation and oxygen in which we didn’t give permission for. Also being told it could put her at risk of pneumonia for being on the oxygen. And then he said well you don’t have to pay for it if you can’t afford it. He then went on to say that she was in the end stages of laryngeal paralysis and that the tie back wasn’t an option. He mentioned the other option to us which was going to cost about $8000 including a further x-ray to check for other possible complications and a tracheostomy. I asked what her quality of life would be and he said it doesn’t matter as long as we can get her to a state of breathing well. At this time we were left to make a decision so I went back to the car with my husband hysterical on what to do. One of the nurses came back to tell me that our dog was in a bad way and we should go and see her, I was once again in shock as she wasn’t in a bad way when we left home. I won’t go into great detail over the next 1 hour being at this practice but it was terrible. I said to my partner this isn’t right we are taking her home the operation is ridiculous we can’t do that to her we have to say goodbye to her and let her be in peace and out of discomfort (She was 13 years of age). They had a catheter in her at the time and we decided to leave it in her so we could say goodbye later that day in her home where she was comfortable.

We took her home to the cool house where her breathing dramatically improved as she was cool and relaxed. We spoilt her for the rest of the day with nice naps, her favourite foods and lots of cuddles and said goodbye to her that evening and got a mobile vet to come and help us :(. This has broken our heart our best friend we never knew we were going to have to say good bye to that day.

We knew we had to make a decision to either say goodbye or to go ahead with an operation, we only wanted the best for her. I felt this situation could have been handled very differently with a little more compassion.

Having my own business and being a health professional I was disgusted with how we were treated.

I can't praise the staff enough,. They were fantastic and really looked after the pet as well as the human company that went with the 🐕. Although we lost the little darling, they were helpful and very patient with us. I would recommend them to everyone.

All I can say is you were all wonderful. Especially the specialist Linda. Thank you so much for your honesty with little Tinka. You are definitely one caring compassionate and honest vet specialist!! Thank you very much for being genuinely concerned, and for taking the time to write up a care plan. I'm so impressed with you all xx

We have used the service provided by WAVES twice this year for our cat when he needed more intensive care than could be offered at our local vet. On both occassions the staff were very professional, patient and caring with both us and our cat. We are very grateful to them for the medical care they gave and can highly recommend them.

I love WAVES! They are incredibly helpful and always willing to offer me advice about my furbaby. I will sometimes phone them late at night asking for advice and they will give me free advice. The staff are kind and compassionate. My dog has been there once or twice in the middle of the night and we have seen a number of the vets and every one of them has been extremely thorough in their procedure and always caring about my baby and also for me (the paranoid mum). I could not recommend WAVES enough! They are awesome!

We were referred to Waves by our local Vet, following the sudden appearance of a spinal issue with our beloved Daschund, Ruby. Every single member of staff was fantastic, with particular praise for Dr Moles. I have never been dealt with by a Veterinary Surgeon who demonstrated the same level of compassion and empathy as he did with us today.

This was all the more important for us as sadly, due to her condition, we made the difficult decision to have Ruby put to sleep. Dr Moles had previously explained options available to us, including surgical intervention, but did not place any pressure on us whatsoever to go one way or another.

In the end, after a family chat, we agreed that Ruby needed to be free from her pain and that we needed to look at what was best for her, and not just for us. Dr Moles took care of us while we said goodbye to Ruby and gently ensured that Ruby went to sleep quickly and peacefully.

Although we have lost our Ruby, the overall experience we had at Waves made a terribly emotional and draining day just about bearable.

I would totally recommend Waves to any pet owner; they put your interests and more importantly those of your pet, ahead of any opportunity to take money off you.

Should have listened to the local vets in the area and avoided this place like the plague! Was over-charged with an extra nights (12hr) hospitalisation ($220.00), although when it came to them finally acknowledging it and me requesting a refund they conveniently decided that they "forgot to charge for some extra surgery time and other little bits and pieces" on the finalised invoice I paid in full on the day of discharge. Unfortunately your vet advised me at 6.15am on Sunday morning the procedure was complete following some delays with other emergencies and took approx 1.5hrs (charged at 1.75 X hourly rate on invoice - fair enough given some prep time). Their explanation today: "we're an emergency service, you signed a consent [actually for a lesser estimate] and we can charge what we like". Get your facts right, show some integrity and display an interest in the wellbeing of the animals rather than the owners credit cards. You've made $6500 out of me on this occasion (not to mention the 4 previous presentations) - so you've done well one would think!

I can't fault the vets and their skill, although unfortunately it's your admin staff that will send people running (thankfully to the new vet at the shopping centre down the road with extended emergency trading hours!)

Being new to Perth I needed a Vet in an emergency and went to WAVES. For me going to the Vet is like going to the dentist, a necessary evil. I was more than surprised. The staff at WAVES are committed to what they do and looked after us really well. You can see they love what they do. Price was well worth the effort put in by everyone. Thanks all.

The team at WAVES cared for both me and my cat with equal patience. They weren't my first call of the night. Even after suspecting poison, Baldivis Hospital wouldn't see my cat if I couldn't pay the whole fee on the spot. Very upsetting.
When I called WAVES the difference in attitude and care was immediately obvious. They asked more questions and I was instantly calmed. The whole experience was what I expected from truly caring animal lovers. Thank you. Thank you.
