Had 2 meals here during our stay at the barn. First dinner was a nightmare, zero customer service from staff and meals took 1.5 hours to come out. One steak was missing the sauce and had salad and baked potato which was asked to be left off the plate. Ordered a jacks and coke and the first time got a bundy and the second it was a scotch! Don't think we were charged for it in the end but would have been nice to be offered something for the double stuff up
Second dinner and we again asked for no baked potatoes and then were served them. We ordered a side of fat boy 'chips' only to be given a bowl of roast potatoes covered in mayo. Not sure when a roast potato turned into a chip! The meals also took another hour and a half to come out which is unacceptable when your paying over $40 each for them!
The accommodation is great especially the deluxe rooms but stay away from the 'restaurant'. It's more like a very badly run bistro but all the meals cost between $40-80!
Bartenders are rude, dimwitted and inexperienced. The waitresses aren't too far off from that. Just like the bartenders, they are rude, inhospitable and intolerable, as though their guests, of whom they are supposed to be polite to, are just in the way. The steak was good, very good, but the proportioning was rather bland. I had heard about the Barn Palais' gardens, and how exquisite they were, so when i asked, 'where are the gardens?' i was pointed to a small patch of lawn with a big tree surrounded by cottage styled flowers. It was nice, very well kept and all, but from what i heard of its magnificence, i was really dissapointing and i really didn't see the big deal about it. That's not all the gardens though..Around the place you'll find some nice hedges along paths and some pretty flowers around aesthetic lamp-lights..but that pretty much it. The Barn Palais looks very nice, it's neat, and contemporary, well kept, but the service is just really pathetic.
Steak was juicy and tasty! Good wine. Their wine list goes on and on and on. Good service and really friendly staff too. We loved it, highly recommend!
We had a superb meal here. The eye fillet is second to none. The service is really friendly, helpful and efficient and the wine cellar is simply outstanding. We also loved our desserts. It's our second visit here and it was even better than the last time.
The place is always packed out for a good reason the food was awesome
Had fillet mignon here, the dish was very 2003, just a dish you serve in the local pub not a restaurant. Nice piece of beef wrapped in a horrible piece of bacon and definitely too much of sauerkraut as side dish. And the toilet doors are stright of the dinning room.
Disgusting I was hungry they offered another meal but I didn't want to wait. Asked them to tell chef of my complaint. Left about 20 mins later, PAID for food though sent it back and no word of what chef said. No offer of dessert, wine, coffee.
I have been there a few times now and the steak is always perfectly cooked and delicious. The service in general is good as well.
At first I was sceptical about ordering an $85 steak, but as we had been out for a birthday dinner and listening to the staff talk about the food and the local farms it was worth a try. OMG! I have been fortunate to eat steak at some fancy places around the world and this was well and truely up there with the best. The awards that line the entry do this slab of Wagu beef any justice. Highly recommend taking a plung and going for gold. Go on, get the $85 steak.
Wow best steak and service had in a long time.
Food was ok. Paid high prices but have had better from pubs.
Accommodation was new ,spacious and well priced . Two month old air dried eye fillet with bone in was perfect.
