One of Canberra's best and most popular clubs, with enormous function rooms, a very good bistro, more upmarket a la carte Greek restaurant, lounge, cafe, and an excellent Chinese restaurant upstairs. There is a play area for children off the family-oriented bistro, and pokies and a TAB for the punters.
There is often live music and a large dance floor in the lounge area, making this one of Canberra's most popular social venues on Friday and Saturday nights. Even with the very large dance floor, it's sometimes tricky finding a spot to dance!
In the dozens of times I have visited for events, meals, drinks and dancing, I've never had a bad experience at this venue, so it's a place I can certainly recommend.
It is a fabulous place to go to sit in comfort, have a drink and watch sport. The interior has been redone recently so it feels very modern. The Chinese restaurant upstairs is great for yum cha. The Italian restaurant on the ground floor is also excellent.
Plenty of parking at the club as well.
Been really loving this place! Only way I can fault it is the $25 minimum on card. Who even has a limit on card transactions in this day and age?! Any who, great place, clean, good selection of drinks, good selection of food, nice function rooms you can hire, great big screens for the sports on weekends, comfortable chilling.
It is a friendly and welcoming club with good parking. Very nice premises with good dining facilities and a large area coffee lounge and tv watching facilities. There are also meeting/function rooms, children activity areas and lots of poker machines. If that is what you want. The attraction for me is a good place to have an occasional coffee with friends or alone but there is likely to be something for most people. It is well worth for a visit to check it out for yourselves.
Fabulous Club with 2 full restaurants and 2 more casual dining locales, one with secured kids entertainment area. Membership required for local residents of ACT. Function rooms for hire. Clean, friendly and a little glam.
The Hellenic club itself is a good standard ACT club, but the Filos restaurant is a wonderful surprise good Greek food, good service and a reasonable price.
Despite being a Chinese restaurant in a Greek a club, Ginseng at the Hellenic Club does the best Yum Cha in Canberra.
You'll need to sign up to the Hellenic Club or go with a member to visit. Well worth it if you enjoy Yum Cha on the weekend.
Great food in the bistro which has a kids area with games and climbing frame. Nice cafe for coffee and a catch up. Also: Pokes!
One of the best clubs in Canberra. Good function rooms for hire. Good restaurants, coffee etc. Have good activities. Everything you want in a club. Recommended
Ordered entree and mains from the bistro, mains (for the 4 of us) came out when we weren't even half way through the entree. Server didn't clear the table number so that got moved to the floor so I didn't have to look around it to converse with other people at my table. 500g steak had about 100g of gristle, but was cooked nicely. No dessert available from bistro. Front desk guy was nice and helpful, lady taking orders in the bistro was nice too.
The recent refurbishment has made the entrance really nice but we visit the ginseng Chinese restaurant, whose yum cha quality has gone downhill over the past year. The hargow and dumpling skins are now powdery and sticky, and there is similar story with the rolled rice noodles with prawns.
Has a bit of something for everyone in there. Always full of people and atmosphere.. something you don't always get in Canberra! ;)
Loved this place. From the moment I walked in as a non member. The front seat was polite friendly and most helpful. The bistro had a good range of food and staff there were on the ball. Bit pricey but I found the food was worth it.
Great night. Superb dinner at there Greek restaurant. Ouzo and Zambucca, beautiful wife to share experience with. I was king for a night. 10/10
I'm not normally one to review but I thought tonight deserved a mention. My wife, 18 month old son and I turned up just before Ginseng's opening time of 5. Our son was getting tired and hungry and we couldn't find anywhere else open. The staff were friendly and took us straight to a table and brought out prawn crackers. We quickly got our son eating the food we'd brought for him and ordered our own. The food came out extremely fast and was excellent. We ordered spring rolls, satay chicken and broccoli and Mongolian lamb. Definitely recommend.
