Very Central location. Close to southern Cross and southbank and the crown casino. Lovely rooms and comfortable bed. Highly recommended.
Huge rooms, great food, great room service, restaurant and bar on ground floor really nice. Personable service. Love it.
The Grand Hotel Melbourne, housed inside the original head offices for Victoria Rail, is one of the most beautiful hotels (if you're into older style architecture and decor) in Melbourne and extremely conveniently located to boot! Right across the river from Crown Casino and just down the street from Southern Cross Station you are in prime position to explore Melbourne on foot or travel to its surrounding areas by train, tram or automobile.
24 hour reception always has exceedingly friendly staff behind the desk who are willing to assist you with anything you may need. The rooms are Loft style and exceedingly spacious- a kitchen with working stove and oven, lounge and office area with television and couch plus the upstairs with twin single beds and bedroom. I will add that my bed was possibly the most comfortable hotel bed I've slept in for a VERY long time!
The corridors and decor remind me a little out of something you might see in the movie 'The Shining' but that made it even better for me. Old buildings are beautiful and I love the elegant feel of this particular one.
Reasonably priced, comfortable and great location. I stay here whenever I can!
There's a difference between aged and charming, and run down. This was the latter. Carpets were well work, repainted walls were patchy, and the room had a musky smell to it. There was also an issue with no one picking up when I called for room service at 5:30pm, and the fact that staff (although polite) were disinterested in creating a nice experience. On checkout, I was not asked once about how my stay was and when I enquired about a good coffee place I was given a list of nearby cafes rather than a recommendation. Overall it was ok but is it a 5 star hotel? Definitely far from it.
It's nice to go to an old style hotel. The front reception is just a individual desks and two chairs. Can't complain too much about the staff we had.
The room we had was 2 levels with a kitchen. (I love 2 level rooms) It was renovated room with good clean carpets, good couch and an awesome comfortable bed.
Just have to remember when booking there are renovated rooms and none renovated rooms. If you get a key instead of a card then you have booked a none renovated room.
Downside was the toilet. I mean it wasn't horrible, not cleaned or anything like that. Just they have small tiles which shows some grouts not cleaned hence kind of give that motel style look. However it did have a bath tube and big shower. Also there is only one lift to the floors as per my knowledge.
The breakfast was the highlight for us. Brook and Jackson 5 looking guy(Apologies I didn't catch his name and if you guy know I will edit this post with his name) provided unbiased customer service. Polite and engaging stuff. The breakfast package is awesome as you get 3 items and it is totally worth getting it.
Thanks Brooke and Jackson 5 looking guy
Rooms are big and spacious. Close to Southern Cross Station. Staff helfull.
From the moment you walk in you feel transported back to a bygone era of travel. The oppulence of the occasion commences at the fron door with seating during check in. The high ceilings and long hallways only adds to the grandiose of the situation. The rooms are very well appointed and comfortable and the large windows in the loft appartments are truly exquisite. Walking through the garden to get to the pool is a nice touch, and the gym equipment is sufficient for a quick workout despite being a little outdated. I recommend staying here and experiencing what travel was like when times were simpler and staying in a hotel was saved for special occasions.
The rooms were beautiful, very spacious and clean. This hotel is in a great location with trams, trains, shops and restaurants all within a few minutes walk.
Great hotel. Massive quality rooms in a great location (right near Southern Cross and walking distance to Crown Casino)
Grand is the right word. Really nice to see a heritage building that remains intact. Very central location with amazing food, drinks and service.
