Three of us headed down for a meal on a Saturday night around 7:30, it was busy but not too bad which made it rather annoying it took 45 minutes to take our order and then as long to actually serve it. The steak was average at best, overcooked and dry on the thick bits and basically still moo'ing on the thin bits. How could it possibly be cooked like this? Was half the steak hanging out of the pan? The sides are not worth mentioning at all. The muscle pot was apparently ok and the whole snapper wasn't bad. I can't help but feel for near $200 for 3 people the food is not even close to being adequate quality.
The decor looked fine, it's a nice spot opposite the park and sitting outside is good but I won't be making a return as there's far too many good eats around here.response / report this review -

Red Door Mornington at the counting house is amazing. Great service and delicious dumplings. Sam, the owner is so attentive and accommodating and all staff lovely. We had a great experience!

Red door at the counting house is awesome. Great dumpling, nice atmosphere and great service. Also very reasonably priced. Worth a try. We'll be going back

Great setting and nice waiter however overpriced, undersized and underwhelming food. Disappointed especially with the $13 charge for 2 very small scoops of ice cream!

The Counting House continues to evolve and get better each time I go. Menu changes keep things interesting for regulars like me and the wine list always good. The $35 lunch menu with a glass of wine is excellent value for the quality on offer.

This is my favourite restaurant in Mornington and I go at least a couple of times a year. I have recommended this to many friends over the years, all of whom have loved it. Well worth the extra $ - the food far surpasses any of the restaurants in the area.

Been there a couple of times, the food was very nice, wait staff average. Over priced for what your getting. If you want a nice dinner with a nice view, try Kirks or The Royal.

The food was perfect. Cooked to perfection and the flavour just fantasic. Do youself a favour and stop past for diner. The extra $ are worth the spend
