Room was fine, but this place is way out of town. Guests are stuck with one restaurant as there is nothing in the vicinity. The hotel is huge and was full of Asiaian and Indian tour groups
We walked after one night, forfieted three nights payment and moved downtown to a decent hotel near the ocean and downtown. Money well spent.

This resort is not walking distance to the main city area and wharf so we had to use Uber a lot to get around. The local buses aren't frequent and the hotel didn't have a shuttle. I'm not sure if all the rooms are the same, but the room I booked didn't have a bath tub and that was a bit of a disappointment. The bar and snack area by the pool could have better hours.

Great place but seems to have outlived itself. There are many features that are mo longer being used around the resort. Could do with a little makeover and it would be back to it's glory days!

Colonial Club will never have me or my family as guests there as during our stay around 4:30am a Caucasian male had try to enter the room he opened the door but was stopped by the security latch. This was a very frightening experience and really mind bobbled me that you would need the key which is a card to open up the door this suggested that maybe a staff might be trying to enter rooms on other intentions at odd hours. This experience did shaken me just to see the poor security and to see how this person really agrressively pushed on the door. For your general safety until security is enforced this is not a good place.

Stayed here on a weeknight. We discovered that there was no water available to our room (we were told this was due to a "council fault"). We were not told this at check in. As our water bottles were empty, and we had no other drinking water, we asked if bottled water was available, and we were told that there was and someone would deliver it to our room. After an hour with no water being delivered we went to reception to ask again - they then advised us that they had no bottled water (contradicting earlier advise). We then called reception again later that night and were told that if we bought cash they could open up the shop for us to buy our own bottled water (contradicting again what we had been told). We were then told that there was water on elsewhere in the facility (not sure why if there was a council fault?) and we ended up taking our own water bottle for a refill from a tap near reception.
Meanwhile, our room was located between multiple school groups and we were kept awake until about 11 pm by teenagers running around the complex. Could not leave window open as air conditioners from other rooms were too loud.
All in all, we had a terrible night with no drinking water and were very glad to check in the next day to a nearby hotel that had running water and was quiet (and had staff that were willing to help).

A great location away from the bustle of Cairns, which would suit those with their own transport. However a cheap uber will get you in to town for under $10. Reasonably price and the meal and drinks were also fair. For a family they have pools and a play ground. Enjoyed our time and big thanks to all the staff - all very helpful and happy to answer any question we had.

The Cairns Colonial Club is a reasonably priced place to stay whilst visiting Cairns. It is a fair way out of town so would suit people who have hire cars or tour groups on buses. It has everything you need in a hotel, an average restaurant, a little store, a number of swimming pools etc. It is a little long in the tooth these days though. Looks and feels like it could do with a refurbishment. They do give out vouchers for free wifi here and claim it works in your room, but I find it to be patchy at best and really only useful in the lobby. Overall a decent place to stay, but if you are looking for something more modern I would look elsewhere.

Cairns Colonial Club offers a wide range of services. They offer conference rooms, short term and long term accommodation. A wide range of relaxing amenities are also available. Close to the city and Airport.

A sprawling resort with a nice pool. The food from the restaurant was pretty unappetizing especially for the price. The poolside bar also did not open once during our stay. Seems like a good place for children. The staff was friendly and accommodating.

Wifi doesn't work in our room. Voices easily heard from the next apartment through the locked door. No kitchenette. Far from everywhere. Decent pool though.

I enjoyed my few days in Cairns and organised my own itinerary, a car hire and activities. Cairns Colonial Club Resort was very convenient and comfortable. The room was basic motel standard and the attention of staff minimal - and does not rise to the standards of similar resorts in Bali, for example. Perhaps calling the hotel a "Resort" overstates what is on offer at the hotel, though the opportunities for tourism in the Cairns Region, on all budgets, is exceptional.

The resort is undergoing refurbishment. Our room is a good (apart from the bath size) and it has a kitchenette. The WiFi is a good speed. I hope the hotel upgrades the shower heads though as there are much better water saving devices available.
The kids loved the 3 pools.
