Best Fish and chips! We stopped here going in both directions and it didn't disappoint the second time! Highly recommended!

Most disappointing fish and chips we have ever had. The batter on the fish was just plain weird, not crispy and bubbly like what you'd expect, and everything was really bland and flavorless. We had to go and get something to drink afterwards to get the bad oil aftertaste out of our mouths. Not to mention that they were going to make us pay for a tiny bowl of tomato sauce to have with it, so we just bought our own bottle from the IGA nearby.
We won't be going back. It's not worth the money.

Lol this restaurant is a joke. The drink is the best thing on the menu. The dishes do not come with ketchup or tartar sauce. It’s an extra $1.20 charge but this wasn’t mentioned or displayed anywhere in the store (tourist trap). Also there’s a $10 minimum when you want to use card. We purchased our food and finished our transaction but they still won’t let us purchase more items (water and ketchup sauce) unless we met the minimum $10. Also, the staff is really rude. After I finished eating I was waiting to ask a question but one staff just put up a “kitchen closed” sign in front of my face without any greeting. Thanks for the laughs!

I ordered grilled calamari and chips, the calamari was tender but quite oily. Poor customer service; the owner was serving another customer but it took a long time for one of the two young female staff members to acknowledge us. Even the cook didn't bother saying a word whilst standing behind the counter. And the restaurant wasn't busy that night.

Big waste of money. We ordered the calamari & chips, fish burger, fish souvlaki, and a garden salad. While everything looked good, it was all unbelievably bland. The only thing with any taste was the garden salad because it was drowning in balsamic dressing. Also, even though it was a "large salad" it was quite small. Tarter and tomato sauce were NOT included and the tarter sauce we bought tasted terrible, nothing at all like any tarter sauce I've had before. Stay away.

We had dinner here, the place was full but managed to find a table. You order at counter & they bring your food to the table. It's licensed so that's great. The seafood platter for 1 was plenty & fresh. Their Oysters were really nice & fresh. Chilli mussels were also good served with bread.. It can get quite busy & may need to wait a little for your order but you will not be disappointed with the food, eat in or take out. The service was good as well & good value for money $$$..read the reviews and make up your own mind, we did and were pleasantly surprised. Met the owner's son John & he was friendly & had a good chat. If you passing by or staying at Apollo Bay this place is a must!

don't waste your time,,, after ordering a meal there was no tables due to the owners letting takeaway at the the tables. and then try telling the so called owner!!!! all we got was " to bad you go outside" And whatever you do don't leave a tip for the hard workers..they don't get a cent! the old lady takes it ..

Good quality. It feels like you're eating actual fish and not just pure batter. Big portions, hot chips and affordable price. Good choice after a morning of surf.

    Great people, great coffee..
I must admit about the staff- they are such a great souls.
I bought one coffee and accidentally dropped without having a single sip.
Those people just gave me an extra free coffee. Not many people do this now a days.
    👍 A must go place.

In short, an Australia Day lunch that was spoiled by extremely poor customer service and a lack of general courtesy.
Whilst the food itself was not bad, although nothing special by any means, it was heavily overshadowed by the very disappointing experience that we had with dealing with an honest mistake made in the busyness of the day.

We ordered our lunch on what was a very busy day for the cafe, and so we could understand that things could be missed or get confused in the busyness, and so when we had walked home with our food and then opened it to find about $3 worth of chips, not the $9.50 worth that we had ordered, we figured that the shop had forgotten to give us a package of chips.
Upon returning to the shop, and following up our incorrect order, we were told that as we had placed our order there had obviously been an error made at the register, as they had put through our order of $9.50 of chips as their 'fish and chips' deal (which is $9.50). An understandable mistake, especially given the number of customers ordering. However amongst all of this there was not one apology, which was quite surprising - not when we walked back in with our food, nor when we informed them of the issue with our order, nor when they explained to us their error. Not a single word of apology, nor any offer to try and rectify the mistake. In fact, the manner in which they handled the entire situation very heavily suggested that they believed us to be at fault.
We were then told, rather rudely, that if we wanted more chips we would have to pay for them - something that we had not much choice but to do, as $3 of chips weren't going to feed 11 people.
We then waited for another twenty minutes, whilst our potato cakes and fish (and the handful of chips) went cold, whilst they cooked our $6 worth of chips, which was likewise disappointingly small - it was only slightly bigger than the amount that we already had. And there was still no apology.
So, overall, a very unimpressive example of customer service and courtesy, and a very impressive display of how to lose clientele.

I would be very happy to discuss the above with anyone associated with the Apollo Bay Seafood Cafe, as it was a very disappointing experience, and one that I truly hope is not a regular occurrence.

Had the seafood platter and some muscles in a chilli & tomato sauce. Food was excellent. The chips were nice and crispy. Family friendly cafe. Only let down was having to pay for ketchup, since. Totally not acceptable when you're paying $20 for a dish
