Whilst waiting for over 3 days for the Ford dealership to provide a radio code, I contacted ASL and immediately was sent a code. The code worked perfectly and unlocked the radio and all within half an hour. Their service of a $15 up front fee, fully refundable on receiving a 5 star review is amazing. I have an FG G6E, Mark 1 2009. I am basing my comments in comparison to my partner's FG G6E 2013 Mark II factory fitted "as standard" sat nav.
My 2009 FG Mark I vehicle came fitted with a colour, but not touch, screen. My partner's 2013 FG Mark II vehicle came with a colour toch screen and sat nav as standard fitment.
ASL replaced my screen with a touch screen. The touch screen looks no different to the standard screen and the Ford interface remain identical. When you start the car the screen dispaly remains the same as that originally fitted. Operation of the radio, CD player, Air con teperatures, steering wheel buttons remain exactly the same as that originally fitted. The touch screen is only operational with the sat nav. To start the sat nav you place your finger on the touch screen, hold for six seconds (which feels like twenty) and the sat nav starts up At any time that you alter the radio, CD, air con controls, steering wheel buttons, and for that matter the phone bluetooth, the screen reverts to the original factory display to reflect what you are altering and then skips back to the sat nav.
Overall I feel the ASL unit is equally as good and probably a little better than the unit as fitted as factory standard in the FG Mark II G6E. It is very, very similar in operation to the factory unit. At this stage I have had the unit about 2 months but must say that I am not an expert operator on either system but have spent a lot more time fiddling and exploring the Mark II factory unit in my partner's vehicle.
That said, I will make the following observations:
The ASL unit appears slower to start than the factory unit.
In "landscape" mode the ASL unit display is lighter and lacking in contrast in comparison to the factory unit
The ASL unit gives many more options for the map display itself and I prefer some of those displays.
Both units can be difficult to see if the sun shines onto the screen, however because of the ASL map display options available, and the one that I prefer to use, the ASL display is easier to see in these conditions.
The ASL unit has the option of speaking the street names. The factory unit (in the Mark II) does not.
As I said before, both units are very, very similar in method of operation and performance with the ASL unit having a few more options. A person familiar with the Mark II unit would have not the slightest difficulty in using the ASL unit (other than how to turn it on) and vice versa.
I had the unit fitted by ASL at their premises in Lynbrook. The fitting took a couple of hours. The staff were courteous, and gave me a "lesson" after the unit was installed. The unit comes with free map upgrades for two years. Warranty is just one year. Overall I am very happy with my Sat Nav Gen 3 as fitted to my 2009 vehicle.
