Went at tea time to the cafe to try the famous original Sacher torte. It did not disappoint, can highly recommend it - particularly with their own black tea blend. While it is not cheap and we did have to queue (the queue moved quickly, and it appeared we caught it at the busiest time), don't believe any visit to Vienna would be complete without it.
We ate at the Cafe Sacher in the hotel. We had the famous Sacher Torte which was pretty good although not quite as good as some of the tortas offered at the many other cafes in Vienna. The service was lovely and the apple strudel was good as well. We enjoyed our visit.
Great location. Walkable to many points of interest. Kind and knowledgeable staff. The suite was very clean and comfortable. Wonderful meals and great drinks in the blue bar.
A Viennese institution. Sure it maybe touristy but the wonderful service and delightful Sacher cake sufficiently reward those who choose to queue. Step back into a little old world charm and relax with your coffee in hand and cake on your plate.
We had a party of five, but the confusion between the hosts/waiters made our getting a table a bit frustrating as one waiter told us a table would be available in 5 minutes and to wait, but another ushered us to the next outdoor entry saying the other dining room had space already. The host at the side dining room rudely told us to go back out and denied having space. We ended up going back to the original entrance where we waited for the guy that said it'd be a 5 min wait. The story goes on, but more of this confusion. In the end we were seated with 2 small tables pulled together which worked just fine. The apple studel I ordered was a bit cold, soft and not what I was expecting.
Nice place, great to see the history. Good to relax and people watch right near the opera. The cake is excellent and the coffee is very good. A must do if traveling here
Great world class hotel. We stayed in one of the suites. Great service and great people. The only reason I give it only 4 stars is the food in both s cafes and restaurant. They served me a goulash at lunch with meat so tough I could hardly eat it. A 5 star hotel would not have served that. Dinner at the restaurant was elegant and well serviced. The food was just OK. 5 star is not just OK. I will stay here again. Hopefully someone will take my comments seriously and improve food service. FYI I have been in the food industry in the US for 45 years , I know of what I speak.
Oh my! This place is something else, we did not stay (I wish!) but took time out to see the public spaces. They are the height of luxury, style and taste. Particularly loved looking at the walls of pictures of all the famous guests who have stayed. Elizabeth Taylor, Queen Elizabeth, all the big opera stars, Domingo and the like, Orson Welles, Brian May to name but a few. The staff were very accommodating especially the Doorman who told us some tales whilst maintaining a discerning discretion
Beautiful hotel with period decorations. We visited to try the sacher torte and pastries. Would visit again.
Came for the little cafe that serves the original Sachetorte. It was super cute and cozy! The cake was pretty nice. I'd say its worth a sit-down visit.
Went here because it was so famous. Sacher torte was very well presented but not to my taste. We went quite late, around 11pm, and service was very slow.
So far we have not left the hotel, it's so cosy and wonderful. It's in the very centre of Vienna, directly opposite the opera house.
It is very rare to find a classic, traditional, historic hotel that has not only retained its former glory but gracefully moved with the times to incorporate the best of old and new.
The dining options are wonderful from the fantastic breakfast buffet to the cafe and near Michelin Star quality restaurant. The team are fantastic, the food wonderful sourced from local fresh ingredients.
Very simply if you are in Vienna stay here
Although their Sacher torte is famous, I still find it a little dry especially when you buy their packaged ones to go. It is better to eat it right there. It's a name you can drop but there are really better pastry places if you are looking for pastry and not ambience. But the Ambience is 5-star.
