Amazing cemetery, incredibly staffed with mausoleums of the aristocracy of Buenos Aires. The mausoleums are really close one to another and create a unique effect. Not all of the tombs are well kept, making the cemetery even more gloomy. Especially recommended in a rainy day. The entrance is free.

This cemetery is full of mystery, history and charm. Culturally rich, exceptional architecture, sculpture and views.
Guided tours are offered, in a wide range of languages! On the entrance you can find a traditional map with locations as well as a virtual screen for faster browsing.
It might take couple of hours to complete the tour, but definitely worth the time! It's better to came already knowing some of the characters you'll find inside since their mausoleums reflect some hints of their backgrounds. Enjoy!response / report this review -

Excellent experience. The cemetery is free to enter (they even offer free guided tours). It is simply a large cemetery full of elaborate tombs of wealthy and/or famous people who wanted to purchase a spot there. Some are quite historical, dating back to the 1800s. Others are as recent as a few years. The cemetery is very large and would take a long time to fully walk through. One creepy detail is that some tombs are no longer maintained (due to the family no longer paying the fees). Many of these unmaintained tombs have open/broken doors. Not only that, but some of the caskets are slightly open. You can easily find yourself within a foot of a body that is 100s of years old! Slightly disconcerting.

I don't know how I can give 5 stars to a cemetery
However La Recoleta has so many beautiful crypts and plants, it is a nice place to relax for a while.
Very popular with the tourists, mainly because of Eva Peron She lies 5 meters underground in her family crypt. So look for Duarte.

Cool place to spend for an hour or so looking at the beautiful mausoleums. Entrance is free. It's not easy finding Eva Peron's tomb but just follow the crowd and eventually you will find it.

Definitely worth a visit as there's a lot of historical figures buried here. The free guided tours do not run any more but there are knowledgeable pay tours. We had one in English for AR$100 which started at 11am.

Should go at least twice. 1st with the guide and then by your self during the week to really enjoy the beautiful streets and the incredible sculptures.

They also give put free guided tours (not quite sure how it works but a great incentive).

Nice to visit, a different perspective of cemetery. Was trying to look for Evita's tomb, but gave up after going round several times. Tombs are not numbered

Gorgeous cemetery. Reminded me of New Orleans. Evita Peron is buried here and has a beautiful tomb. Spend a few moments taking pictures of the tombs and get lost among them.
