Makaravank monastery situated in Ravish region, far in the mountains. It is about 20 minutes from Achajour village. The road is very nice. Architecture is incredible. And it is surrounded by very old and great trees. Must be monastery, must be nature, must see place.
We spent the night in the tent, just to be able to see the church early in the morning when there are no visitors. The forest around it is magical, the natural settings have certainly inspired some of the ornamentation used in the architecture. If you camp in the forest make sure you be careful with the tall grass (especially in spring time) as there are some very small parasites which we only noticed when we returned.
Nice historical church
Place to visit
So simple, so beautiful!
One of the most beautiful churches in Tavush region!
According to a legend, an architect whose name was Makar, was building this monastery with his son. But while he was putting the last stone, he got the news that his son was dead. He became desperate and jumped from the roof of the monastery.
