The Pillars of Hercules are the majestic and strikingly wonderful rock formations at the entrance to English Harbour (opposite Fort Berkeley) and the Nelsons Dockyard. The pillars are well defined and I immediately saw how the name came about, please note that they are viewed from the sea however the land access makes them more personal and striking. Land based access is done by hiking around the coastline through the Galleon Beach Hotel property and the Freeman Bay area.

The Pillars of Hercules are a signature feature of the coastline and the subject of many circumnavigation photos and videos, the pillars are becoming (to my mind at least) more pronounced and unmistakable. When I visited them and looked at their splendor and beauty I heard myself saying "Majestic" and immediately knew that that word summed up the feeling evoked from being there observing natural wonders.

Much photographed and admired for their natural beauty and splendor these pillars need to be experienced close up in order to fully feel the impact and wonder that they evoke. A definite must see for the intrepid explorer(s), which is in all of us.

We came by boat. A nice snorkeling spot. It was a bit windy which made for slightly choppy water, but the view was beautiful and there were lots of fish. I am glad we made the time to stop by. We then went into the English Harbor and ate at Boom Restaurant, which was also lovely. A must see in Antigua!

A good snorkeling spot often visited by Adventure Antigua. I highly recommend a day out with them :)
