This is a review of Fort James, not the Fort James Beach, Rusells Fort James or the many businesses activities on or surrounding the Historic Fort. The well preserved Historical Fort is indeed a worthy and quite interesting place to visit and enjoy.
Positioned at the entrance of the St. John's Harbour with awesome panoramic views of the City and environs is one Antigua's premiere point of interest. The Fort overlooks the Deep Water Harbour, Perry Bay Quay, The Royal Antiguan Hotel to name a few and also provides great photographic options.
Having more Canon Ball Guns than most other Forts I have Visited Locally and Regionally is another of the unique attractions of Fort James. Famous by day and indeed by night (Ehem!:) this Fort remains an interesting place.
Unfortunately, the government nor anyone else are doing anything to maintain this important historical site. Worth a one hour visit to see the beautiful British canons still facing out to sea where they were originally sited to protect the harbour of St. John.
This place was shown in brochures and looked very interesting and maybe because it was low season during our visit, the place was in shambles with over grown grass all over the observation points and cannons, and we guessed because it's isolation, is used at night for "love" and night activities because some areas were littered with condom wrappers it is a shame because is a beautiful place
Overgrown and not maintained, but interesting historical location. Great ocean and bay views.
Loved this fort please add to National Park
As a place to view history, a picnic spot, even a place to just let the kids runs and play its a nice. There's a view if the harbor, or the open sea, always with a cool breeze. In the evening with a little bit if insects repellant this place can even be romantic, wink wink. Lol. Remember not to litter, please and thank you.
So relaxing..
Beautiful beach
Historical site
A public beach that offers the life guard services, restaurants and public restrooms! Beach Limerz restaurant bistro offers a Caribbean fused menu that encompasses the globe, staff and service is some of the best you will ever experience!!
Great scenery, wonderful for sunsets.
Antiguans are not mantaining the ruins of this fort and it is falling apart. It is amazing though, the good state of the canyons. A lot of history lost in this fortification
Easily accessible (we drove straight up and in) and ample places to park.
The ruins have an eerie but tranquil atmosphere and lots to see (views, buildings, cannons) and explore.
Free to enter and park.
