Funky place to hang out
It is a venue that was closed. We just looked around and it has potential for a great party.
Great venue, also check out cradle moon next door.
Underwhelming. Food was bland and badly over cooked
Awesomeness at its best. A real SA getaway for a few hours with good friends. Safe, secure and out in nature.
Zonki is a good venue for pretty much any party event. The venue sports over night facilities and entertainment is good. Have a look at the ceiling for a interesting experience.
This was one of the most disgusting places I have ever been in. I'm a black South African who has lived over 2 decades, I have township and rural experience, but I have never walked into such dirty squalor as I did when I came to this place. The message this place sends is that black people are dirty, collect crap they can't even fix and their living environment is not hygienically palatable. There were dirty pants hanging from a ceiling. What is that message? All the black women in my group of more than 50 were reaching for wipes to wipe the plates before dishing out food, and some looked for boiled water to clean the spoons, because the plates were questionable and had rust showing out of the enamel. One of the guys in the group found hair in his salad. The only thing that wasn't as traumatizing were the restrooms because they were ACTUALLY clean. I would have preferred to sit on the floor there and eat. If you want a shebeen experience, go to the real thing at a township, using a township tour guide, you will be in a cleaner, less clattered environment. And there are places around the Parkhurst area that have created a shebeen experience without ALL the negative stereotypes this place represents.
