After 18 months of not travelling, we decided it was time to go back to South Africa. And of course we wouldn't go to South Africa without staying at the best lodge in the Greater Kruger area: Toro Yaka Bush Lodge. And it was even better than we remembered. We had the most amazing time here.

Apparently we now belong to the most fortunately people in the world, because we spent an afternoon with a juvenile Pel's fishing owl. The baby was first in a tree, but than decided to fly to the rock in the water to give us a full sighting. And just after sunset, the mum or dad also came back, so we could see the adult owl as well. We hope to see them again next time we are at Toro Yaka.

But this wasn't the only great game viewing. We were very very lucky with seeing animals. The game drives and game walks were filled with many of the big 5 and other amazing animals. One of our game walks will go into the books as epic! We will never ever forget this morning. Thanks guys!!!

But of course the best part of this lodge are the owners and the very knowledgeable guides. And the food, don't get me started on the food. It is all so delicious.

What we love is that it is not massive. Just a few rooms. Very intimate. And that gives you a change to meet the few other guests too. We made friends for life here.
And the rooms are spacious, beautiful and with an amazing view of the bush. What could we possibly need more?

We loved every second of our stay at Toro Yaka Bush Lodge. We want to return as soon as possible.

I can't recommend this lodge enough! It is the best place to be. And always add one more night to your booking. Thrust me, you will thank me later!!!!

Dear Nicole, dear Steve, dear Toro Yaka team.
I can’t believe that our visit at your lodge has already been some weeks ago… It still feels like its only been last week.
It’s amazing how quick one can feel like being part of a family. But that’s exactly how Anneen and myself felt at your place and especially around you guys.
Thank you so much for that! We’ve had an amazing time and will definitely be back one day.
    Cheers
    Sebastian

When you want to stay not next to nature but be part of the African wildlife, this is absolutely your place to be!
Honestly, the people are really friendly, you can do a guided safari multiple times a day and every safari is different. The guide is absolutely perfect in every way. He can tell you stories, he can give you any information you want about any animal living in the area. Even thou we had been 2 meters away from lions, rhinos etc, I felt safe the hole time.
The dinner is perfect, the lunch is just as it has to be and the dinner (3 courses meal) was always a great and well done.

If you want to do vacation here around, you have to stay in this lodge.

Thanks to the whole staff, the information I learned I didn't know before, for the food and the recipe :)

(One downside for people who are afraid of insects: you can't do a safari without moths, Butterflies, crickets or grasshoppers. I wasn't bothered, I was fascinated!)

Toro Yaka was an absolutely amazing place to stay and I would highly recommend them to anyone! The staff were great and made my family feel at home. When we first walked in the door they greeted us with a cold washcloth and a nice glass of cold tea. This was a great first impression and it only got better from there. Expect this stay to be relaxing with early mornings, many naps, great food and good company.

This is our third time staying at Toro Yaka and it really feels like home away from home. The whole staff (Amore, Brenda, Tholapi, Mike etc) are really friendly and making you always feel really welcome. Owners Steve and Nicole are also really involved daily, starting from a family breakfast where both of them eat together with the guests. Also many dinners are enjoyed together talking about life and animals. Nicole prepares amazing food and notes any dietary requirement as well. Steve is a really knowledgeable conservationist and offers walks in the bush, where you can discover small wonders of nature. Safari guide Mike is also amazing, he is really passionate about wildlife (same as Nicole and Steve) and gives you an opportunity to really enjoy every animal for longer and not racing around like guides in most other places. He is also a talented tracker and knowledgeable about every specie. The lodge is beautiful and as it’s not fenced you can really feel being surrounded by wildlife like warthogs running near the pool. After your stay at Toro Yaka you will feel happy and relaxed. Love this place and can’t wait to go back again!

We've stayed twice at Toro Yaka. A more complete experience of a friendly, professional, value for money Safari would be hard to imagine. First class hosts, excellent cuisine.
