Absolutely the best and only place to eat to your hearts content in Clarens, brought a group of 8 people which consisted of some italian friends and their children here since we always eat here when we come to Clarens and they judged their pizza’s. They could find no fault and they just loved the thin base and crust on their pizza’s and one thoroughly enjoyed his oxtail. We dont normally drink, yet they found their red wine to be excellent and said that it was a bargain compared to what you would pay in Italy for something half decent. They felt that they were getting the real South African experience right here in this restaurant with its rustic and warm setting in winter and I couldnt agree more. Just a disclaimer, book in advance, there is no chance that you could book a hour or two before the time and expect to get a seat unless perhaps you are extremely loyal regulars which is still unlikely. To ensure a chance for a wonderful night out, please book at least a day in advance especially if there are concerts or holidays commencing while you are there for your stay. You definetly haven’t experienced Clarens if you havent gone to The Highlander!

Really looked forward to spending some hard earned cash at this restaurant, based on all the good reviews however I tried to get a table - was told that we can sit outside in the rain!
I pointed out several other tables available, and as we were still 3 hours away from peak dinner time, I figured that we can use a non-reserved table but the waiter was absolutely not willing to help! Literally ignored us!
So apparently you need to book in advance, and I ended up having a fantastic meal at the German place down the road!

We were a group of 13 the service was very good, food preparation was quick. The soup and pizza were excellent, and the beef curry is recommended

Deliciously prepared steaks to be had here! They seem to prepare on the slightly undercooked side - which is good to know if you prefer your meat well done. Lighting could be better, service could be a bit better, but overall makes for a very pleasant evening!

Service was really bad. Waiter seemed angry throughout service. Chicken on Pizza was off. Other pizzas were bland. Other meals were ok not great.

Although the price was reasonable for Clarens, the food was not as good as I had expected. I ordered the rainbow trout, which was pretty tasteless and not filleted properly. The selection of veg that came with the meal was bland and sparse. The server did not ask us if we wanted any sauces or condiments, and only when our meal was nearly over did they ask. My colleague ordered steak and was satisfied with his meal.
