My name is Pedro and I suffer from cluster headache / migraines since I was 20 years old. In 2015 I made a full diagnosis on the Headache Clinic and did a surgery (arteries cauterization). Since then my pain has reduced, but it still exists. In 2016 and 2017 I also did a small muscular intervention in the clinic. After my daughter (Age 13) had suffered from headaches for many years, we visited the Headache Clinic upon referral by a friend. We flew to Joburg from Harare Zimbabwe in August 2017. After thorough neurological exams as well as tests, she was diagnosed with migraines and fitted with a PMA device which she wears in her mouth. From having severe, frequent and excessively painful headaches which sometimes lasted as long as a week (meaning many missed days of school), we are now down to an occasional headache lasting maybe two hours at most and not as severe as before. Very grateful to the team at the Headache Clinic for prescribing such a painless, non-drug solution to my daughter's headaches. They know what they are doing and its high time Medical Aid Societies started paying for this treatment.

I used to have terrible headaches/migraines. I would sometimes have a migraine attack and couldn't talk or see properly and be numb on one side of the body then i visited The Headache Clinic and ever since then my headaches got really better and i hardly ever get those attacks. If they come i get very mild ones, i can cope with them. The doctors, nurses and staff there are all friendly and very patient. Very patient!

The whole experience there was very peaceful and at the end a big sigh of relief. very professional service and very kind. The doctors really take the time to tell you what you have, and how and what may cause your pain and what is a possible cure. I managed to get my issue sorted!

I took my 13 year old daughter who suffered constantly with tension headaches. The little plate they gave her to wear on her palate has changed her life. She has had no headaches in 5 months.

I have had severe migraine for more than a month. I tried all doctors and every pain tablet i could get my hands on. I have been to a chiropractor as well. I asked around for advise so a lot of people referred me to the headache clinic. At this stage I would have done anything just to get rid of my headache. Long story short is that I know it is expensive and I had to make a loan but it was my last resort I was skeptical at first. They did so many tests after all this they got the results and said I must buy a PMA! A plate you put in your mouth to take away all the tension. It is so expensive too but like I said I would do anything. I have the PMA now for about 3 months and till to this date I haven't had any pain killers to drink I do not get headaches anymore. Never in my life could I have imagined that something so small can do such a big job. I highly recommend the headache clinic!!

Dr Shevel and everyone who is involved with the Headache Clinic are angels sent from the Heavens above. I had a procedure by Dr Shevel and was looked after by Dr Jeanette de Bruyn afterwards. I cannot talk more highly of these two wonderful doctors. Their care, empathy and sincere sympathy goes way beyond anything I have ever come across. I have been headache free since the procedure which is now about a year and a bit and I am SO grateful. I suffered with Cluster headaches every year for 37 years before this treatment! I cannot talk more highly of all the staff, the doctors and the aftercare I received. I'm forever in debt to Dr. Shevel and his team who seem to be the only people or place which has any answers for these crazy headaches. Grateful beyond grateful. There are no words that can express my gratitude to the Headache clinic and its staff. Everyone is friendly and helpful and clearly knows what they are doing. I must admit that I was skeptical. It is expensive but well worth it. I have not had a headache since I visited the clinic (it’s been a month now) and my life is turning back to normal. It is amazing to realize how much having a constant headache for months on end can affect you, in your personal and professional life. You have changed my life for the better and for that I will be eternally grateful. Thank you so much Dr. Shevel, Dr. Orelowitz and Dr. De Bruyn and all the other staff (from administrative to the nurses). You are a great team and wonderful people.

My husband attended the clinic recently. He received practical advise on managing headaches although it would have been helpful to know that they can't make a conclusive diagnosis if the person doesn't have a 'severe enough' headache. I am also very upset with Dr Orelowitz. He informed my husband that he is morbidly obese and had to loose weight. We knew about this problem and has started with lifestyle changes at home a couple weeks ago. However, this isn't an issue as this would be a comment that any doctor would make (ONCE). Dr Orelowitz asked my husband to undress and only keep his underwear. When Dr Orelowitz saw my husband standing in his underpants, he commented: "but you ARE morbidly obese!". This is the most unprofessional, rude, humiliating and derogatory comment a healthcare practitioner can make. Afterwards, one of the other practitioners asked my husband how he is feeling, upon which my husband replied that he didn't have a headache before but after seeing Dr Orelowitz he does have one. The practitioner then responded that he shouldn't take it personally, Dr Orelowitz upsets all the patients. How can a practise keep someone employed if they are aware that he/she is treating patients with disrespect and humiliates them when they are most vulnerable. Totally disgusting!

Had an alright experience with the clinic during my time there but I am highly appalled by their service. They operate on a cash only basis and it is only after, while trying to claim from medical aid that i understand why. The one practice number for a doctor i saw is closed and no longer in operation therefore medical aid will not pay for that claim and the clinic refuses to look into the matter. Some of the IDC codes they gave were also incorrect. They make you pay cash as they know some of their charges are bogus and medical aid will not pay! So they leer people in with the impression that they can just claim back from medical aid but they know medical aid does not pay as they provide incorrect and invalid information!!!
