Awesome experience learning about the origins of the human race! The facility is clean and well organized, the staff are friendly and helpful, the exhibitions are very interesting - overall, a great experience!
Expect to spend the full day there for the exhibition- and cave tours. Restaurants are available and most areas are wheelchair accessible. Safe parking is also provided.response / report this review -

I have been twice now with visitors from 4 different countries, and every time it exceeds our expectations. However, if you drive on your GPS do NOT turn right at the traffic circle, but rather follow the signs and turn left.
The tour is fun and informative, and the guides are excellent with kids. The activity areas are enough to make adults play like kids!response / report this review -

Not to be missed venue. Funny enough, I have been Joburg for longer than 15 years and I could make it to the cave only now. Several steps to go down and then come up. As well as you need to crawl at few places. Surprise is - there is a lake inside cave and as per the guide no one knows how deep is the lake. Deepest try was 70 feet. Must visit.

If you're in Johannesburg. Go. The Cradle of Humankind is amazing and the visitor centre cleverly takes you through a voyage across time. Good interactive exhibits. I can not recommend this highly enough. I've taken every friend and relative who has visited me while living in South Africa and they have a ll loved it. Again, entry is good value too for foreigners. A word on the restaurant: it is brilliant, when it's not offering it's buffet lunch. If they have the a la carte menu on offer, eat there. Closes at 4pm - which is crazy (this should be open until late in the evening and it's make money) - but is worth a visit. Don't hesitate, just go, great day out.

Well set up, guides are very informative. Cub petting was great except only 4 month old were available and they tend to get a bit playful and can bite if you aren't careful. Was an awesome experience. Game drives were fantastic, with two lion feeds on weekends. Some impressive animals to see. Self drive is available allowing you to use your own car to drive through the enclosures. A good attraction is the giraffe feeding, by hand. This depends on the giraffes themselves and weather, all animals aren't as active during hot weather. Costs are geared towards tourism though.

The staff are exceptional,service orientated and interested.Kenneth the guide was tour guide was brilliant he found out my son was writing An exam on evolution he went out of his way to explain facts.. How's so informed..I was very impressedresponse / report this review -

Always an amazing time. The rich and deep history of Africa and the origins of human evolution. Though not hosting the earliest finds, it does boast on of the largest, if not the largest quantity and variety of pre-human fossil finds.
Normally a 45 min to 1 hour walk through the Sterkfontein caves. Located about 10 minute drive from the Maropeng museum this is a great day escape from the city for the whole familyresponse / report this review -

A must for families and school classes.
A detailed view on the sensational prehistoric finds.
A brief history of mankind, touching on the development of Life on this wonderful planet. Presented in an inviting and entertaining way.

Was at a wedding function and this place is beautiful honsetly. And not even just that, the staff are so nice, when I wanted to order a drink or something they some how knew and were there. The food is amazing, some of the best wedding food I ever had. Overall the place is great and if you just want to go for breakfast or even having a wedding there I'd definitely recommend it.

A visit to Maropeng is really worth the trip. There is so much history and so interesting. The preservation of the fossils is truly amazing. There are souvenir shops and 2 restaurants where u can either have a smart full service meal or near the entrance is a casual restaurant where light meals and beverages are served. The views are beautiful from the viewing point at the top of the main restaurant.

It's a really good full day out. Lots of things you can do regarding the animals, for example pet a cheetah, feed a giraffe, self guided car drives through the park. I even saw a guide car fully caged, I think that might be for the lions! There's a few restaurants as well to choose from. It's very well kitted out. Also lots of curios for going home with.

Maropeng, the official visitor centre, is interesting to adults and children. The displays are informative and many allow children to engage and interact. The scenery is beautiful and even if the weather is poor, the outing is pleasant.
Sadly, the information on some of the displays is quite dated, and can do with an update. This does not alter the value of the exhibition, specifically as it relates to the evolutionary pathway and the history of the area. The stale information pertains more to the impact of development and consumerism on the environment.response / report this review -

This was a pleasant experience that I really enjoyed. This museum is probably more suited for children, but there is a nice restaurant on the premise as well. You can choose how much of the exhibit you want to read and how much time you want to spend. I would suggest combining this with the Sterkfontein caves
