I've hiked all over South Africa, and this has to be one of the very best overnight hikes in SA. Being out near Carolina with its power stations and flat boring scenery is incredibly deceptive, because the hike itself could not be more stunning with beautiful, diverse scenery. The forest sections with waterfall after waterfall reminded most of our party of the Knysna forests, which is saying something. The water is crystal clear and sweet to drink, there are lots and lots of pools to swim in, ladders to climb, ropes to help you navigate tricky sections, stunning cliffs to peer over, archaeological ruins and even "Bushman" paintings to marvel at. Rooikrans especially is incredibly well positioned and thought out. There are far too many thoughtful touches that make this "camp" special. If you are into hiking, do yourself a favour and book - there's a good reason I've done it 5 times over the years. Its just as good each time.

Scenic weekend hike with perennial streams making swimming possible even in winter. Great preparation for challenging 5 day hikes like the Otter Trail. Overnight huts are well equipped with boilers for a hot shower. Ancient Indian ruins along the route very interesting and mysterious. Definitely my favorite two day hike.
