This building is an iconic landmark in the centre of Cape Town. It's a vast cathedral crafted from stone and presents with everything that you would expect such as intricate carvings on parts of the exterior, sculpted rain spouts and lovely stained glass. It is situated across the way from the houses of parliament at the beginning of the Government avenue walk way. It is often a place that people picket outside to protest various social injustices. There is a contingent of homeless people who sleep around the side of the building which is sad as they use the area as a toilet and make the area less safe. There is a cool coffee shop called The Crypt, I always find it interesting to see what churches try and get up to to raise funds. The Cathedral has been undergoing some repairs which been interesting to watch and is a good thing.

Usually a lovely place to find peace in the city but they are currently working on the roof so there is too much noise for a supposed santuary. The cleaning staff are exceptionally rude. The toilets are closed to the public and if you by some miracle do get to them you have to pay R2. 00. I asked a staff member if I may use the toilets and she just gave a flat out and emotionless : "Nope". Furthermore, the Siyahamba labyrinth that they promote and advertise on a billboard outside does not seem to be open to the public. Hopefully they will improve soon.

My third visit to Cape Town, I had to see the cathedral. It is absolutely amazing, it is a wonderful place filled with history. They are in need of donations for various things so take a few rands. It will really help them. I read that the operation costs are sitting at about R10000 per day!

St. Georges Cathedral is a beautiful, tall cathedral in downtown Cape Town. It has a rich history making it worth a quick visit. You can easily look at the beautiful architecture inside in a few minutes while reflecting on themes like forgiveness and reconciliation. In the back of the church, there's a labyrinth open to the public in the morning to early afternoon on certain days.
