My travel partner and I had a very short lived stay here. We arrived to find the hostel was fully booked including approx. 30 school aged children running around the hostel making it extremely loud and chaotic - with very little room to move. We quickly discovered that rooms could not be locked (no lock on the door) and the lockers were unsuitable for use, therefore no where to store our gear. The owner assured us that the hostel was 97% safe - a very strange comment. We left for another hostel.

The place has a lot of potential and after 20 years you would think they have their systems in place. Apparently not, but still one of only two really fun backpackers lodges in Durban. there's another one too but its another kind of fun. Nomads could do a lot for themselves if they stuck to their motto of "Here we love. Here we share." Instead of running things with the exact opposite attitude.

We have been going to Nomads for close on 15 years and will return time and time again. There is no better place to relax and recharge ones batteries. The staff are always helpful and friendly.

The braai(bbq) area at night becomes a social gathering for all staying there and over the years we have met some amazing people from around the world.

I would highly recommend a stay.

Very open organized accommodating. Be sure to use the intercom on the security wall for entrance. This is one of the gateways to Bulwer hang gliding near the Drackensburg mountains.
