Went to JD Ballito the other night. Ordered the Trio of mussels, tasted terrible and very oily. My daughter had the squid heads, over cooked. The Manager "Anton" was very helpful. He replaced my Mussel starter for a mussel pot rather. My hake thermidor came and it was over cooked and dry. I didn't want to complain anymore so I just paid and left. My husband enjoyed the prawn starter but also disssapointed in his main meal.
I doubt I will go back, especially with so many other restaurants in Ballito.response / report this review -

Worst restuarant experience we have ever had after 2 hours only half of our table recieved their food, children left crying and hungry, calamari was raw and mussel pot had two mussels and plenty empty shells, the managers response to all this was just as terrible as the service could not even say sorry i have been to many other john dorys and could not fault them problem here is most likely management no control of service or food quality i would not be surprised if this franchise does not last long!!!

Bad experience. Asked for cocktail- not available. Asked for draught beer - not available. Requested red wine not available. Food wasn't great either. Would not recommend JD Ballito. Will not see me again.Get your act together.

Pathetic is not even a word to describe my experience visiting such a high class place in ballito ,after me and my friends decided to go and have some good food and relax but it was like we went and wasted good time and money for no reason ,the service was terrible ,the food was unreasonable ,i mean like we paid a lot of money for food that we could have got from a supermarket deli that would have tasted better , we ordered our food and was expecting something good and filling but what we got was small portion of food and cold chips ,it seemed like we were given left overs from other peoples meals that wasn't finished , the service was bad I say ,we had to wait a long time for our meals and we had rush through the meal and while some of us were still eating the waiter didn't even as ask if we were done with the meals but just started removing the stuff from the tables ,It was like they was doing us a favour ,we were really disappointed and we just paid the bill and left ,one thing for sure i will not be visiting that place in a very long time ,something should done about management and staff.

If terrible and horrible had a baby. It would be John dorys ballito. Despite all the terrible reviews and friends asking is not to eat there we regrettably still went and ate there.
Being a huge fan of JD I've never had a more terrible experience with seafood than there. Service.pathetic.food not up to standards. the only part that was good was leaving.
We placed our orders and we were informed it wouldn't be too long which is not much to work with 25 mins later we are informed the kitchen is out of stock of calamari. We decided to then change our orders when instead we should've ran to the exit. After a few mins our food was on the table the lovers platter which was supposed to be be awesome.. damn I think after eating that I realised why ppl get divorced. No but seriously jokes aside the place was pathetic. While we were eating the waiter took away our plates!!!! Our meal took ages to get to us and then the meal was rushed. Tasteless food. The chips was ice cold as if it was cooked for another customer soggy cold and terrible.
There's too much to complain about. NEVER expected such a bad experience at JD.
NEVER EATING THERE AGAIN.
If you crave JD drive to suncoast trust me it's so much more worth it.response / report this review -

Service was pathetic, fish was dry and overcooked and the coffees were cold. This should never be allowed in a restaurant. Waiter always served the table of his friends first and thus it took ages for us to be helped. When confronted on the many issues that evening, the waiter did not even apologise and dismissed our complaints completely. John Dory's used to be a family favourite restaurant for us. However, this kind of service has been becoming more prominent as the years have gone by, yet the prices keep going up and the amount and quality of the food keeps going down. Never coming here again, that's for sure.

Very disappointed in the quality of food and the service received at John Dory's Ballito. The fish I ordered was overcooked, so much so that it was tough to chew. The waiter also seemed disinterested in our table and distracted by the other waitresses. And upon ordering our coffees after our terrible meal, the coffee was ice cold! Never going back here again.

I was served "steak" that was supposedly beef of a high quality aged 28 daysi can say 100% that it was NOT beef at all. It was white meat with a pork texture. When questioned about the meat, the manager assured me it couldn't be pork because they do not serve pork. Imo they dont serve beef. Beware of mystery meat.
