Peaceful and tranquil rooms with the full dstv bouquet and exquisite ensuite bathrooms. Really enjoyed my stay.
An unbelievably gorgeous guest house with the friendliest staff and hostess this side of the planet. The food was great, stewardship excellent, attention to detail superb and the house's ambience is the perfect mix of history and modernity. Absolutely charming and I'm awfully spoilt for any other place.
Beautiful old house, with excellent facilities. Very convenient location.
Beautiful cottages and friendly staff
Situated just opposite the Drosty Arch in Grahamstown, the High Corner Guest House is an historical building, more recently known as the home of the late Guy Butler, who was a well known poet and academic who lived in Grahamstown. One of the theatres in the 1820 Settlers monument in Grahamstown is named after him.
This is an old house, most likely one of the first in Grahamstown and it is characterized by very thick walls and large high ceilings. And the work done in converting the home into a guest house has been done with care. We stayed in the “Guy Butler” room, which was a cozy room towards the back of the house. The room has been fitted with Aircon/Heating and the addition of the bathroom was achieved by building walls with what are obviously old floor boards. Very considerate to use old materials in an old house. This is also an heritage building, which means that any alterations they do to it need to be approved by the heritage council.
There was off street parking available, and when we arrived we were greeted by Elvis, who was a really warm and friendly fellow. During our stay here, he was our interface with the establishment and nothing was too much trouble.
The breakfast was the usual buffet style, and the staff were accommodating with specific requirements. All in all this was a very pleasant stay. However, being an older house, of multi-storey construction and wooden floors, everything you are doing in the upper rooms is evident by the sounds being amplified by the floors.
A very pleasant stay in this Eastern cape town during the National Arts Festival.
But as recommended bu others, get a room to the rear of the building, street noise can be excessive at time, in this university town.
Have stayed here many times over the years. Excellent service, clean rooms and a great atmosphere. Breakfast served is of great quality. Centrally located on High Street, the hub of Grahamstown. Ask for a room not facing the street, especially when the students are around. Highly recommended.
