The lodge was the most luxurious and comfortable environment I have had the opportunity to visit, and as far as interest for the history buffs, there's no place better to go on guided tours of two of the greatest battles in our South African history. The tour leaders are excellent narrators and put you into the scene of battle as if you were personally there at the battle. The food was excellent and service uniquely pleasant. I even made friends with the waitress. It was also super to see the wildlife from my chalet and the view over the mountains was spectacular.

Without any question at all, this 3 day break was one of the most beautiful & interesting we have ever taken. Everyone at Fugitive's Drift - owners, management, staff et al - were absolutely fantastic & made the trip thoroughly worthwhile & enjoyable. The story telling is astonishing - emotional & engaging whilst giving real insights into the catastrophic effects of the Anglo-Zulu wars, whilst celebrating the courage & heroism on both sides. Phenomenal.

As someone who has been fascinated by the story of the Zulu wars - way before Michael Caine took to the screen - my stay at Fugitives Drift was everything I'd hoped for. A beautiful place, with guides full of knowledge and able to tell their story in a continually interesting and informative way, great food and a great staff. My walks to Melville and Coghill's memorial, and then the bush walk to the viewpoint were full of interest and animals.
A superb stay, not just about the battles, well worth coming.

This was a fantastic experience with very helpful staff and great accommodation. The lodge specializes in historic tours of the battlefields, with probably some of the best guides in the area. The lodge is also situated on a game farm, where you can go for beautifully scenic walks or horse rides among the animals.

The friendliness and enthusiasm of the staff made this visit a wonderful and unique experience. For history lovers a visit to Fugitives drift is a must. The story of the Zulu war is so amazing to be almost mythical. The staff have adopted David Ratray's gripping rhetorical style. The lodge goes way beyond tourism and is involved in uplifting the community. The food was amazing. The only downside is the long dirt road to the area.
