Arguably one of the best experiences you'll have when you visit SA. This place is without a doubt a must see! You'll leave having learnt a lot, been entertained and feeling that oneness/awestruck wonder nature inevitably produces. Hats off to an absolutely fantastic team doing incredible work for these amazing creatures. Elephant Whispers wins by a landslide!

Our party (a family group ranging in age from 6 to 70+) was booked for elephant interactions + ride (many others didn't do the ride). I was expecting a lot more riding and less of the "interactions" part. We were part of a group of over 50 people (!), which included a whole tour group of Italian tourists (30+). Basically, we spent about an hour and a half listening to explanations about elephants, their eating and activity patterns, etc. (which, to be fair, also included some touching and photo ops with the elephant). For the first half, the entire group was together, and the guide for the Italian group was translating (very loudly!) everything the Elephant Whispers host was saying, making it difficult to hear the explanations. Then they split us up into the Italian group on the one hand, and our "smaller" group (which was still some 20 people) on the other, for more "interactions" and explanations with a single (very large) elephant.

It's not that what was being explained to us wasn't interesting (because it was!), but the size of the group made the experience rather unpleasant -- every photo op took a long time, as we had to wait for every group/individual to go up to the elephant, touch it, and pose for their photo

When that part was done, we finally got to the riding part. Here, only our family group and 2 other girls remained. But what I thought was going to be the highlight of this whole experience turned out to be a 10-min walk in a large circle (reminiscent of pony rides for kids at the zoo), with multiple people sitting on an elephant behind a guide (they only have 6 elephants all in all) -- there were 5 of us (my wife and I + our 3 kids) behind the groom on Timbo, the largest of their elephants (a 3.5-meter, 6-ton African giant -- quite impressive!).

I would have been much happier with a smaller group (no more than 10), a shorter "interaction" section (half an hour would largely suffice, especially if the group were smaller), and a much longer ride, one-on-one (not with several other people on the same elephant).

All in all, I'm glad we had this experience, but I have to deduct some points from the rating for all the negative aspects described above.
