Entry is free
I loved this place, its a recommended visit, has interesting display, and its not too big as well so suitable for anyone.
Has elevator.
Library on ground floor, and museum on first.
Worth noting that the building is shared with city council(other side from the museum), so make sure you enter from the correct sideresponse / report this review -

Was pleasantly surprised by how clean and well kept the museum is. All of the exhibits are in very good condition well lit up and interactive info for those that offer it all work except 1 in the insect section.
Only disappointment was that the paleontology sections is off limits as they are painting the walls in that section.
Considering entry is free and for a government owned building it’s very well kept.
Sunday it only opens at 11am not 9am as google shows.response / report this review -

A recommended visit for visitors to Durban. A public library on the ground floor, detailed Animal, bird, insect and dinosaur displays on the first floor and an art gallery on the 2nd.
Certain sections were under renovation / restoration (October 2017). Certain displays are interactive. And models are extremely life like. Many school tours during the week.
Pity that entry is not wheelchair / pram friendly and the lift was temporarily out of order.response / report this review -

This museum is home to animals, dinosaurs, artefacts and mummies. A good place to take school children on outings to see life size animals and learn many things. There is also an art gallery above the museum.

It was an eye opener to go to this museum. This is a must-go place for school kids (and adults) as there is a lot of learning that one can get. It is a good exposure for anyone seeking something different.

The Durban Natural Science Museum is a great place for all people, both grown ups and kids. It's definitely worth a visit during the school holidays when kids have time to browse through the exhibits. The science exhibits are definitely worth seeing. They provide viewers with almost real life scenes that would be typical in the jungle or fields of South Africa. It's an enjoyable way to learn about the natural environment. Above the science museum is an art gallery which is also worth looking at to get an idea of trends in local art.

Such a lovely museum. 1 floor with a great selection of birds and other animals. The diaramas are fantastic. Needs some tlc in places but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's free and should be on everyone's Durban list.

Hasn't changed much at all in the last 20 years, the displays and taxidermied animals are starting to look tatty and unkempt. Okay for a once off visit with the kids, no entrance fee is a plus but perhaps a small entrance fee would go well towards maintanence of the exhibits

For all the nature lovers out there ,The taxidermist done on the animals is incredible and It is very nice to see taxidermist animals you have never seen been before , right in front of your eyes

Not the best museum in the world but good fun for the kids. If you are unable to see the big 5 in the wild then this is a good place to visit. Animals are pretty life like.
