Be aware that none of the eye test machines are working. You need to get a private eye test before you come and bring your own pen. There are no pens and the lady at reception and the security lady both rudely refused to lend me a pen. Luckily a friendly guy called Julesses lend me his pen and treated me well. The cashier also did her job well.

I was assisted by Mam' Beauty who was very kind and respectful. She allowed both me and my one-month old son to skip the queue and before us she assisted an older man (above the age of 60) with due care and respect. Before I went to the traffic department, I was nervous about my experience but I was pleasantly surprised.

Took the day off from work to quickly do my own eye tests to save time and trouble at the centre, got there at about 10'o clock just to be shown away. Apparently they only serve 100 people by giving the first 100 individuals forms to fill in. If you miss the 100 mark, you are nobody. Should be renamed to "disappointment Licensing department".

If you haven't booked an appointment online (via onlinecompanysa, just google this to get to the relevant website), expect to wait a long time in the queue. If you arrive from after 09h00 am, expect a wait from 2 - 4 hours to get your renewal done.

Once you arrive, get a renewal form from the "information desk" (literally just some old lady sitting on a tacky office chair outside the entrance of the building). If you have obtained a form, then you're set for renewal. If you only get to the licensing station after 12h30 pm or so, you'll be turned away and won't be given a form.

The actual renewal process is very quick. It takes around 10 minutes in total to complete the Eye Test and then make payment at the Cashier.

At the time of writing this (15 May 2018), all that you need to renew your license is your ID Document/Card, Renewal Form (given to you by the "information desk") and your Driver's License.

The fee for renewal is R228, if your license has not yet expired. If your license has expired, it is allegedly R300 (I am not sure if this includes the R228 for the renewal or if the R300 is in addition to that fee).

Arrived at the office early in the morning. The queue was well manged and you were informed in advance of the document and payment requirements. Relevant forms were handed to you for completion before you reach the front of the queue. Generally good and friendly service.

Moves in batches of 20. They hand out forms while you queue. I was there early before they opened. Seems the first two batches take a while, until they get in the grove. Going later would be better.
Once inside it takes less than 10min. x5 Eye test/Photography machines running.
    Everyone is helpful and knowledgeable.

What a pleasant surprise in current times to find such a well managed licencing department. Renewing one's drivers license is a real pain and judging by the queues it must be costing the economy billions. This pain is severely aggravated when the licensing department is a chaotic mess with shady characters trying to scam you and no safe parking.

Centurion Licensing department is (from my recent experience) well managed with the manager constantly in evidence and active. The queues, although long, are well managed, the parking is safe, the environment is clean and the personnel pleasant. Well done Mr Manager and your team :)

An hour and a half from start to finish. what a pleasure.

I went to renew my licence today. Went at 5:45 and waited until 8:00 when they opened. I was 5th in line, and from when I entered the building until I left took 25min in total.
They wanted a copy of my ID and I had to pay R228 (if your licence expired it's apparently R300).
They took electronic photos, fingerprints and you can do an eye test (I brought a document from my optometrist). The service inside was friendly and efficient.
If you came any later than 6:30 you'll probably have to wait a few hours outside - so try and get there as early as possible.

My experience was as pleasant as you could get in a place like this. I made a point of getting there early (6 am) with all the necessary documents (eye test from optometrist, copy of ID, filled in form) and more (photos and proof of residence not necessary). I was amongst the first 30 people. At 8 am sharp the security guard handed out stamped forms to the people in the queue (if you weren't in the queue, you didn't get a form). Then it was a short half-hour in the queue inside, which actually moved lightning fast. Another 2 minutes at the official's desk, then directly to the cashier (R228 on the dot). Done by 8:30.

Had to renew my driver's licence. Arrived at 08:30 was done at 11:30. For renewals you need: 1) Copy of ID book, 2) Original ID book, 3) a purple optometrist certificate and 4) R228 (as of Sept 2017).

The female outside was very unpleasant - snapped at me for asking basic questions around what I should bring. Rest of staff were friendly. I was also told by the same female staff member that the cost for renewal is R300 and that I also need ID photos. Everyone I spoke to in line seem to have gotten different information from her so not really sure what's going on. Turns out you also don't need ID photos (that is for straight renewal, you do if you need a temporary licence as well). They take a photo there.

When you get to the licencing department, you can go to the front of the line to collect a date stamped form so remember to take a pen.

Their eye testing equipment was apparently stolen but there are machines that look like eye testing equipment on the desks. Not sure what these are. I went to my optometrist and specified that I needed a certificate for my licence. I didn't pay anything for it, but other people said that other optometrists charged a small fee (R50).

One or two persons in there working and looking to help you. Mostly a bunch of salary pulling dead weight. If machines are not being claimed as stolen or broken, it's offline.

    Drivers licence renewal.
One tip people! Get there early!! I was there at 7am and was number 69 in the queue. They only hand out 100 forms. After that they don't help you at all. Come back the next day.
The car guards are helpful in giving people the necessary information as they are queuing.
You need your original drivers licence card, your ID and a photostat of your ID. Bring one ID photo if your licence has expired as you will need a temporary licence. You also need to get your eyes tested at an optometrist and bring the certificate with you. They don't do any eye tests there as there machines were stolen.
It took me 4 hours to get to the entrance. Once inside it takes max 30min. Total cost R300.

For drivers license renewals- you have to go early! The overall service from this station is superb! Arrived at 6:15am was number 59 in the queue and I was done by 10:00am sharp. Compared to Florida Lake and all the other stations I have been to, this one takes the cake by far. Great service, friendly staff, and you feel safe from the 1st second you arrive. They only dish out 200 forms to the queue, so it is crucial that you go early! And no its not because they are lazy and what not, it is literally only possible to help 200 license renewals a day. Its not the people's fault if the system means they cant help more people on a day.

Quick and painless for a transfer of title holder. Arrived at 11am on a Monday with all forms downloaded, printed, and filled in at home, along with ID copies and proof of residence in case. Took under half an hour in total, with most people in the queue in front of me just collecting forms for the same process. The queue for drivers license renewal was crazy and had already been cut for the day, but if you want to get something else done, ask the car guards where to go and what you need and they'll likely tell you you to walk past the drivers license renewal queue to another counter. Do your research and it'll save a lot of time, don't arrive unprepared and shout at the poor people behind the counter.
