Für alle die Strauße aus der Nähe sehen möchten. Bei einem sehr warmherzigen Pärchen, gibt es hier einen familiären Aufenthalt und wir hatten hier die besten Straußensteaks in ganz Südafrika!
Die beiden heißen Carmen und Dario. Carmen hat uns mit ihrem Berliner Charme sofort gefangen und uns bestens umsorgt. Dario engagiert sich hier im Tal mit einer jungen Fußballmanschaft (auf Top-Rasen!!) als Sozialprojekt und erklärt alles über Strauße. Man kann die für uns ungewohnten Tiere füttern und kommt ihnen somit sehr nahe. Die Straußenzucht wird hier sehr artgerecht betrieben.
Das Anwesen ist wunderschön in den Bergen gelegen (na ja, für uns als Bayern eher Hügel).. ;-)
Ein Nachbar von den beiden ist ein Geologe im Ruhestand, der hier wanderinteressierten Reisenden mit Wanderungen zwischen 3Std. bis einem ganzen Tag die Flora und Fauna nahe bringt.
Er erklärt was man Essen kann, wie man Wasser findet und welche Tiere hier leben. An einem Wildbach kann man in einer Gumpe (kleiner natürlicher Pool) ein erfrischendes Bad nehmen.
Die Wanderung ist unbedingt zu empfehlen!
Wir hatten auch noch das Glück mit der Jugendmannschaft des Tales ein Fußballspiel bestreiten zu dürfen.
Wer die Natur liebt und Fragen zu Land und Leuten hat ist hier Goldrichtig!

While planning the accommodation for a road trip, one of the cities we were planning on stopping over in, was Oudtshoorn (driving back to Joburg from Cape Town), after doing much research I stumbled upon Carmen's Guesthouse and Ostrich Farm. Their website is well designed with the language being both German and English, and the directions on how to get to their place being in multiple languages (French, Polish, Chinese, to name a few). Their place is described as an ostrich farm that offers bed and breakfast, with great accommodation, and plenty of activities. I immediately sent the hosts an email inquiring about the accommodation. After several emails, I decided to book accommodation for 5 nights, with the hope of being able to stay there for several days so as to visit the many attractions around Oudtshoorn. We traveled along route 62 until we had to turn on to a dirt road to get to their place. This is where the nightmare started, the road to their place is more suited for a 4x4 (not mentioned on their website), and not for an everyday city car and the road to their place is about 20kms to the middle of nowhere, where there is practically no cellphone reception at all. I would not have minded the trouble getting there if the accommodation was up to the standard of a bed and breakfast or as described on their website, instead we arrived to a derelict farm. There were no accommodation facilities (as described on the website), no drinking water (all they could offer was wine or beer, I was given a 1.5L bottle of beer), the hosts could not speak English (they can only speak German and a bit of Afrikaans - not good considering I was touring my own country) (also very surprising considering I communicated with them via email in English, and they responded back in English). They even had my booking incorrectly registered, and was not under my name or surname (booked under Rian - my name is Ryan - extremely unprofessional), and was only booked for 4 nights (I booked and paid for 5 nights), and only to be arriving the next day. They ended up giving us one of their guest rooms inside the main house which consisted of three extremely hard and unconformable beds, and pillows that offered no support for your neck. If it wasn't for the two other guests (one could speak German and English) that was staying there for the night, it made it slightly possible to converse with the hosts. The other guests informed us they had arrived the night before, and had spent the entire day on the farm, and mentioned there was nothing for them to do on the farm (again website mentions activities) (take note they drove a rental car). Oddly there seemed to have been a curfew of what time we had to be in bed by (20:00), as the hosts locked the doors, and we could not go outside. I would not recommend this place to anybodya major disappointment considering their website promises such a wonderful place! We ended up only spending 1 night there, and left very early the next morning. This place is clearly not suited for those that are looking for a holiday away from home, their website does not portray thatI would not even recommend this place even if you're a German tourist, rather get accommodation from another B&B or Hotel! This place was the only hiccup to our road trip!

Ich bin schon zum zweiten Mal da gewesen und wieder/immer noch begeistert! Carmen und Dario sind super nette Gastgeber, die Unterkunft ist prima und abends wird auf der Terrasse mit wunderschöner Aussicht gegrillt. Die Fütterung der Straußenherde sollte man sich auf keinen Fall entgehen lassen; so dicht kommt man wohl nur hier an die Tiere heran. Es wird sehr auf das Wohl der Strauße geachtet und Straußenreiten etc. gibt es deshalb hier nicht! Vielen Dank ihr zwei für die schöne Zeit! Wir kommen bestimmt wieder!!!
