Kids loved it and still talking about it months later. Knowledgeable guide and entertaining. Beautiful scenes. Very professional staff and eager to help answer questions or point you in the right direction. Great exhibits too.

The Cango Caves are about 30km outside Oudtshoorn, but we'll worth a trip. However, the only tour worth taking is the adventure tour. Take clothes that can get a bit sweaty or dirty and fit tightly. Closed shoes are best. You'll have a fabulous experience and fit into spaces you never thought you could.

This natural wonder is well worth going out of your way to visit. I did visit them many years ago as well, when they had coloured lights to highlight the formations. Now the lights are all white (apparently because people want things more natural). I think alternating the two options would give the best experience to everyone.

Our tour guide was entertaining and the caves are quite spectacular. We did the Heritage Tour, which is easier and shorted than the Adventure Tour. I would recommend it, as it was interesting and about the right length for us. Photos don't capture the scale and beauty of some areas.

There is a gift shop and cafe in the main building, as well as plenty of parking. Booking in advance is definitely recommended.

This was a wonderful experience. We were lucky to have a good singer demonstrating the excellent acoustics. . Some other tours were not so lucky . Guides were well spoken. Several languages offered. Lighting very good. Excellent photo opportunities.

This is a great experience! It is well worth the visit.

The tours are normally not greater than 30 people. It is amazing to see what mother nature has created underground. Go and have a look for yourself.

Take the FULL tour! there are a few places you have to squeeze through which is great fun! The post box is good fun (hold that tummy in) and then you have the devils chimney. what a lot of fun.

If you are claustrophobic, I would not advise the chimney and the post box.

Take the Adventure tour!

The adventure tour was great. R160 per person is a fair price for this event. The guide was funny and very friendly! We liked it a lot to see the caves. It's nothing for bigger people because you have to climb up 4 meters in a small hole, walk in 50cm high, very small parts in there. But at the entrance you can find a wall to try if you fit in the holes. Don't worry ;)

Loved the place. A must visit if you are doing the garden route. They have adventure tour and heritage tours and i would recommend going for adventure tour. Even though the guides might scare you that the adventure tour is scary but trust me its not that scary but rather is quite fun.

Well worth a visit they are spectacular! Tour experience dependent on your guide and ours was not very personable or enthusiastic! The adventure tour is not for the fat or unfit and make sure you can fit through the cut out boards at the entrance as some of the passages are a tight squeeze! In 2004 an obese woman (20+ stone) got stuck in one of the tunnels and it was 20 hours before she and others trapped in the cave further on were released. Views are good and restaurant available. We got on the first tour of the day, the numbers were small and swelled as the day progressed. The caves are hot and we were overdressed and sweating profusely. One concern was no helmets were available (too expensive!!!) The only cave we have visited were their use was not compulsory. The passages deeper in the caves are slippery, appropriate footwear needed. There are a lot of steps even on the basic tour, and some disabled visitors were struggling.

From the two options available, I would recommend the adventure tour for anyone able bodied enough.
While it is not really that 'adventurous' (all four tunnels are simple and short to walk/crawl through) you set to go much deeper in the caves and .
Our group was a mixture of people, ranging from the late 60's to the late 20's and no one had trouble following.
Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and happy to respond any questions from the group.
At the time of writing this review, Regular tours start every hour on the hour from 9:00, lasting 60 minutes, and the Adventure tours every hour on the half an hour, from 9:30, lasting around 90 minutes.
Do not expect a full speleological expedition by any length, but a fun activity if in the area.

Great cave tour. Adventure tour was fun and a quite the workout. Might be difficult for larger guests but there are other tour options. Tour guide was very friendly

Amazing spectacular sandstone formations. 3 option for tours from Scenic to Adventure,going 1,2 km into the earth. Better if a small group. The Devils Chimney and The Postbox are narrow so large people may not fit! Good facilities ( curios, restaurant and toilets.
Normal tours on the hour and Adventure every hour in the half hour.

A definite must stop on your South African tour. Whether you're laid back or adventurous you can choose between a standard tour of the caves or the adventure tour. Mind you it's not for the faint hearted. Once you're done you can make a stop at the curio shop or just have some grub to eat while enjoying a beautiful view of the mountainous landscape

The caves are amazing! I recommend the adventure tour.

The pricing is okay.

The restaurant could use a little attention as the tables had dust on them and the menu was a little bit boring. I had the burger.

The staff was friendly. The guide was knowledgeable.

Overall it was a good experience, but I feel certain standards may be slipping.

I'd like to see the Cango Caves remain and be treated like the jewel that it is.

Though we loved the pizza and had excellent service from the waiters, other staff members were hostile from the time we stepped out of our car with a dog, two children, and a 'mixed race' party. When we pointed out that we were customers and would have hoped for a more polite engagement explaining that their dog did not like dog visitors rather than a (semi) hostile declaration 'We have a dog here', he proceeded to tell us that he didn't value our business anyway, and once other customers had left played loud thumping music at us until we left (which we did as quickly as possible). As stated above, the wait staff were amazingly helpful and welcoming, and the food great. Attitude and ambience let the place down immensely though.

I have been there 3 times but always done the heritage tour which is amazing. This time I did the adventure tour with my family and what an amazing experience. I will suggest anybody to do that. People are all so friendly as well.

Having read many good reviews about the Cango Caves Adventure Tour I decided to buy a ticket in advance for the first tour in the morning. Turned out that this was a good idea as it was already completely booked out as I arrived there.
You start with the normal tour and then get split up. The normal tour consists of more than 100 tourists wandering into the Cango cave system. The guide tells you in the beginning that you should only take pictures when you are in the large caves and not en route because there isn’t anything worth taking pictures of and it slows down the whole group. Guess what happens next? Most of the tourists start to take pictures anyway. Don’t they listen? After visiting the two main chambers we get split up and only then you realize how many people are in your Adventure Tour group. Apologize my honesty but one short look at that group and you can tell: It will not be a fun tour but more a torture-tour. Many tourists are big (even though there is a testing-display at the entrance to check if you will fit) and stiff. So if you are in such a group you better try to line up in front or you will wait a looong time. Okay you will wait anyways for all tourists to pass. Because yes, the passages are very narrow and it helps if you have good shoes and please leave your bags in your car because you really don’t need them and they will only slow you down even more. But it’s still better to wait for the rest than wait to squeeze through the already sweaty cracks at the end of the queue. Read on to learn why this is the right decision: The Devil’s Chimney is probably the trickiest part and the guide explained how to place your feet to every single one of us. After having waited for about 20minutes in the next chamber the guide let us know that we can continue on our own because he is stuck with the other 2/3 of the group on the other side. The tour is supposed to take approx. 1.5h to 2h and as we continued on our own we have already spent 2h in those tunnels. Arriving at the exit we saw that the next group was already waiting impatiently to go in: a similar large group and judging from their appearances many will take their turn in getting stuck or at least hold up the whole group.
Yes it was fun to sneak and crawl through those passages but they should really stop trying to maximize their profit by letting everyone in and focus on the experience.
