I've had several positive experiences with Waterloo. Their employees are always professional and attentive.

We have been trying for 5 months to get pier locations laid out so we can build a house. After 3 months of saying "we'll come out tomorrow" they finally show up and mark a bunch of stuff that doesn't correspond with our plans or even their own plans.

I have been trying to get them to clarify what on earth they staked out and why their drawing is all crooked and wrong, but nobody answers their phone or emails.

Their friendly price of $600 is nowhere near the cost of wasting our only permit extension and now having to fail inspection until we can find a competent surveyor to start over.

If you enjoy a lack of communication, an end product not meeting the basic requirements, and a "too bad, so sad" attitude use Waterloo surveyors.

Background: I am a homeowner, my pool builder recommended getting a survey prior to construction to assist with permitting. I asked Waterloo to refresh an existing survey from 2016. Waterloo responded quickly via email saying I needed an impervious coverage survey. We agreed to terms and Waterloo sent someone within a week.

Waterloo emailed the PDF of the new survey fairly quickly, albeit without an impervious calculation. Waterloo agrees to send another person to correct the issue. This is when I bring up the fact that the original survey had trees marked and their survey did not. Waterloo lets me know that for the bargain basement price of $500, they can add the trees (which means measuring the width and drawing a circle on the survey). Did I mention this company's office is half a city block from where I live? Future communications to rectify were met with silence. I ended up writing a check to Waterloo and using my original 2016 survey.

Paying $500 on top of the $600 I already paid for trees to be added to the survey seems like bait and switch. As a novice I am expecting you, the expert, to give me what I will need to navigate through the City of Austin permit process. If surveyors had more transparent pricing, it would eliminate these misunderstandings. The other issue is that Waterloo's reviews show they have done this to other people which is not ok.

I contacted Waterloo Surveyors by phone (twice) and email (twice). They did my original survey of my property and I was looking for an additional topographical survey and tree survey because we are starting a building project in the backyard. I never got a return email or call, which was frustrating since I wanted to use the same company that did the original survey for these two additional surveys. I would be happy to change this review if I can get a call back.

The building process is stressful enough, I was disappointed that something that could be really easy wasn't. :(

    UPDATED POST!
Brian and Waterloo reached out to me and set up a time to complete the survey at the end of the same week (much better than the other company I had booked which was giving me weeks out to book). His crew came on time, were VERY professional and thorough, completed the survey on a Friday, I paid the next Monday and had my tree and topographical survey on Tuesday.

Besides the initial communication lag and the stress that caused me, overall I'm very happy with the service. Gave them 4 stars just because of the initial upfront communication.

Waterloo always comes out immediately when requested for surveying. I have used them over 3 different times. However, they might need to list an additional phone number because I can't get in touch with them in order to pay my bill.
