Fabulous service. Highly recommend
My wife and I rented bikes here on 9/23/17. The staff and owner were not only friendly and helpful, but they had the bikes ready for us in less than 5 minutes. They asked for minimal information and did not require us to leave a driver's license as many bike shops do. The bikes were Specialized hybrid bikes. The bikes were in excellent condition and we had no problems with them. Their rental rates were also less than some of the other shops in the area. The store is a nice, clean, modern store. The overall experience was hassle free, quick and easy.
Great bike rental experience today.
Helped me size up to the right shoe. Friendly, higher than expected prices.
Called to confirm I could collect an overnight rental at 6pm. All fine they said. I arrived at 6.45pm and they refused to serve me - "come back at 10am tomorrow ". Absolute absence of any desire to meet customer's requests. Went to Northampton Bicycle down the road who couldn't have been more different. Friendly, acccommodating, keen to help guess where I suggest you go in Hadley / Northampton.
Pleasant experience, looked at bike problems at no charge to evaluate our concerns. Will return.
Bike shop with little lower income accessibility. Had bike brought in for simple fix. Ended up trying to be guilted by mechanics into fixing issues that were not wrong. Mechanic friend checked issues, and everything was ok. Also, said that the shifting was completely broken. Behold! A twist of the barrel adjuster and its fine.
Overpriced, and not great mechanics.
The UMass cycling team had the shop do tune ups on their mtb bike a few years ago, and bike was received with loose headsets.
(The only reason I gave them one star is because I couldn't give them no stars)
I brought my Stump Jumper in for regular tune, fork/shock maintenance, and rim straightening.
It cost me $330 for all this but this is what I got (or didn't get):
After 15 minutes of me questioning them why they could not tune my front derailleur, I gave up. I spoke to both the tech and the store manager and neither of them could give me a reasonable explanation why. Baffled, I gave up on that part of my questioning about the service and moved on to ask about other aspects of the tune up.
When I brought the bike in, the damper and lock out on the fork functioned perfectly. When I left, neither of these features worked. They told me my fork had to be sent in to Fox to have the damper rebuilt because after they put new seal/wipers on the fork the lock out and damper no long worked. They told me it would cost me $150-$175 and 4-5 weeks without my bike in order to send them into Fox. Once at home I drained the fork and found less than 30mL of 10wt red in the damper side. The fork requires 160mL of 10wt red! I refilled the forks to the correct amount and they now work perfectly, (lock-out, rebound and all). Additionally, I had 4 people at the shop telling me 4 different riding hour service intervals required for my forks.
When I brought the bike in the front brakes were squeaking a bit so I suspected that new pads were required, but the brakes were tight and very responsive. They put new pads on the front and back after telling me how much they were, but neglected to tell me about the $40 charge for bleeding them. Which they either didn't do or did an extremely incompetent job of doing. When I got the bike back from them they were very spongy. I rode the bike for 15 minutes and the back brakes no longer worked. I have since had to buy a bleed kit to re-bleed them myself. I pulled old brake fluid out of them along with enough air to fill up a small balloon. After performing this service on my own they work as expected.
When I brought the bike in the rear wheel was bent and missing a spoke. They replaced the spoke but told me they could not straighten the rim, it was no longer serviceable and needed to be replaced at a cost of $150. I brought the bike home and straightened the wheel in 1 hour.
All in all, I paid $330 to get the bike wiped down, if that, by an incompetent tech who was supported by sales and bully management putting in their 2 cents during my inquiry.
Just to add to this, my aluminum seat post was greased when I got it back!
Additionally, the entire time they were telling me how beat up the bike was and that it was ridden really hard (essentially junk).
I could have performed all this on my own but didn't have the time. I ended up re-performing all the service on the bike in addition to buying all the fluids and components required. So I guess, ultimately, I did have the time. A costly lesson.
This bike shop has overpriced bikes catering to individuals from the local community and they have incompetent techs working on these bikes.
Excellent, very knowledgeable and helpful. Couldn't be happier with the service and bikes I buy from them.
Love the crew @ valley bike and ski bought a bike there last year best thing I ever did for my health any time I have a problem with my bike there always happy to help me this is the only place to buy a great bike with great service Thank you staff @ valley bike and ski
These guys are great. They have consistently gone above and beyond to make sure that my family and I are well taken care of. They provide knowledgeable and patient guidance on new purchases and timely and proficient maintenance and repair on existing gear. I recently broke my Mountain bike one week before a big race and they pulled off a minor miracle in getting me into a new warrantied bike in 3 days. I definitely feel fortunate to have a shop of this quality locally.
