Food and service is great but the interior is pretty run down.

We just completed a wonderful rail trip to New Orleans followed by a relaxing cruise to the Western Caribbean. Vacations by Rail's recommendations were on point each step of the way. We especially enjoyed the 2 night stay at Bienville House Hotel and shore excursion credits on the Norweigen Getaway.

My family and I really enjoyed our experience and would highly recommend! The staff was extremely knowledgeable and provided excellent service. We are all really looking forward to our next family vacation by rail! :)

My wife and I had an enjoyable time on our vacation. Vacations by Rail did a good job of setting up an easy to follow itinerary. There were only two minor issues, one being when we arrived in Vancouver we were dropped off several blocks from our hotel and the second was the bus time leaving Banff and heading to Calgary was different from what was on our itinerary, which was easily changed to accommodate more time in Banff.
The train travel from Vancouver to Jasper was pleasant, although the restroom could have been nicer. The dinner aboard the train was very good. The service was excellent. We arrived in Jasper on time.response / report this review -

Our recent trip on VIA Rail that we booked with Vacations By Rail was as the one before super. Our contact Efi was a true joy to work with. I send her a rough schedule with possible dates and locations and she fills it in, sends it back and we work it to fit. Her knowledge as to what we might do to make for a better trip - wonderful. She really goes out of her way to make the best possible. Saturday as we were leaving the house she called with a VIA Rail up grade and schedule change - beat that you others.

My Rocky Mountaineer experience couldn't have been better, from the planning help I received from Dawn Rogan to actually riding the rails with my fellow passengers . The staff on the train were so efficient and the informative and sometimes comical commentary along the way was a delight.

What a delightful experience - surpassed our highest expectations! While most "package deals" include hotel accommodations that are barely adequate, this "package deal" put us in truly elegant, luxurious hotels and we were treated like queens! Our cabin on the train was more than roomy enough. Admittedly, we deliberately chose Cabin F as it was the largest one on each sleeping car. Our attendants were wonderful, anticipated our every need. And, of course, the food was outstanding! I do not know how they are able to put out such wonderful, tasty, beautifully appealing meals day after day from such a tiny space. The only down-side was the accumulated delays throughout the trip due to constant waits for fright trains to pass by (they evidently have the right-of-way, which is not only annoying to we passengers but obviously extremely annoying and inconvenient to the train crews). We were eight hours late in reaching our destination, thus depriving us of one full day of planned activities. However, this is clearly NOT the fault of VIA. I would love to do the entire trip all over again. Kudos to one and all! P.S. Our contact pre-trip was Natasha, who was always available to us, always answered our questions promptly, was well organized and extremely personable. She is a true asset to the company!

Great arrangements for hotels and transportation. Loved the business class train service and the wonderful hotel locations. Everything went smoothly and we would book another trip with them. Our contact with Vacations by Rail was very helpful, patient and good about communicating with us. Very happy with our trip!

Our experience with Vacations by Rail was wonderful! Our representative, Dawn, went above and beyond for us. She was always quick to reply to emails and so personable on the phone. It is rare these days to have a good customer service experience and Dawn made ours an excellent experience! The trip itself was outstanding. Our guide, Ned, was so knowledgeable and also personable. We enjoyed the itinerary, hotels, restaurants and sights. We will definitely use this company again for a vacation!

We traveled the Canadian Rockies in October with Vacations by Rail. Everything was done for us, from vouchers for taxis, Vancouver tour bus, hotels and rail tickets. The Canadian VIA Rail was nice, food was really good and we were impressed by the cleanliness and friendly staff.
Our booking agent, Suzanne, was more than helpful in answering our questions and accommodating our requests. All of our hotels were excellent and although the weather was quite cold, the snow on the mountains were spectacular. We would definitely book again with Vacations by Rail.response / report this review -

My sister and I along with 2 female cousins, also sisters, enjoyed a wonderful trip with Vacations by Rail. Accommodations were great and we were especially pleased to spend a night at the famous Fairmont Chateau at Lake Louise. The only thing that puzzled us was that, unless you studied the itinerary closely, you would assume that this was a train trip when actually you are only on the train for the first evening and night and till 4 pm the next day. After that, all transportation is by bus. Which was okay and the tour guides were very good..

We had a good experience travelling through the Canadian Rockies with Vacations by Rail. We got the hotels we were promised and all transfers took place promptly. We enjoyed not having to make the decisions and arrangements ourselves. Once in town, there was no activity manager to badger us. We took advantage of the supplied tour coupons on our own schedule.
Natasha was good about answering questions beforehand and making changes I requested.response / report this review
