They will charge you extremely exaggerated prices for a simple service. They do not negotiate with most insurance company's as well. Don't go even for last resort.
My family has had 3 encounters with Portage Medical Center and all 3 truly amazed me. The first two visits were for my husband and both were for hip dislocation. The staff members were excellent! He was back home with in a few hours with no complications. He was able to go about his normal day after each trip. On a third occasion of dislocating his hip, he was in a neighboring city and had to go to one of hospitals in the city, it was a horrible experience that took a few days for him to come back to his normal self.
My third visit to Portage Medical Center was with my mother to get a cortisone injection. From Admin to discharge, I was very impressed by their service to their patients and to the family waiting. During this procedure, one of the nurses started to talk to her about shooting pool. When the doctor said they were done, she hadn't felt a thing. They seen her fear, and handled it perfectly.
I want to thank all of the staff at Portage Medical Center for the care that they have shown to my family.
Wish there was a option for negative ratings because this place definitely qualifies. The service sucks, all the doctors are quacks, and you'll die in the waiting room way before they are even ready to see you.
2nd visit to ER in less than a year. Both times from fall injuries. The first visit the MD never even examined me aent me home with a worthless medication. 2nd visit again visible bruising and swelling and trouble walking. Yepthey said Ibuprofen.
I had already been doing that at home.
Had our first visit to the Kent ED the other night when our 18 month old fell and split his forehead open and needed stitches. The staff were all amazing (Ed-RN, Cheryl-NP, and Dr. Vesco to mention a few). We were in and out within 35 minutes and treated great. Well done UH!
The doctor was very good, removed a kidney stone. Nurses before and after the procedure were great. They were extremely attentive and always asking if I needed anything and kept me informed of the time as the doctor was behind. The person doing the anesthetic was letting me know about the procedure they would be doing. Have not gotten bill, but I am sure the price is the same as it would be at every other hospital.
Went to the ER Sunday, May 28th thinking I had another slipped a disc. The nurse was very welcoming, but the doctors could care less; was in and out within an hour and a half. They felt that I had just pulled a muscle. Thanks for taking my $250 copay for nothing! Went to my home physician as the pain was increasing and the medication wasn't helping. I found out I did slip a disc!! UH is a joke
Lack of facilities and care. My wife was writhing in pain from surgery there the day before. Took an hour to get back to room. They said there were three being discharged and one waiting.
In the room, the aide did not know how to operate or the automatic bed or was broken. Another aide came in to attach the vitals machine and it did not work. Many rooms were not in use. It took another half hour to see a nurse who said there was nothing that could be given for nausea (wrong) and a shot for pain would only lady an hour. We decided to leave as who knows how long that would taken because a doctor had to see her first.
Wish we had read these reviews first but since the surgery was at the main hospital it seemed to make sense to go to the hospital where the surgery took place.
I will keep it simple. Do your self a favor and drive the extra miles up to the Cleveland clinic in Twinsburgthat's if you seek great care.
Pathetic! I would rate it lower if I could. Two trips last year brought me wasted time and undue expense. The first was for an infection in the knee of a leg with a below knee amputation. I went in with redness, hot to the touch and a discharge of pus from a split in the skin. After over 4 hours a very rude doctor discharged me because I had been there long enough (I agree), even though they had not yet received my x-ray results. To add insult to injury, my insurance does not want to cover the visit because the "doctor" labelled it as a rash. Unbelievable, but true.
The second time I went in with a blunt head trauma and after sitting and bleeding for two hours in the waiting area I got up and left. I can bleed anywhere else for free. Save yourself undue stress and expense, go elsewhere, anywhere!
