When I went there I got bullied a lot and the teachers did nothing and I even told someone about my ex boyfriend abusing me the teacher said oh that's your problem.. And I had blood running down my face

Abysmal. I finished attending this school in January of this year, but I have so much to say about it. Opinions on the students will vary; personally I didn't have too much of a problem with most of my peers. In terms of teachers, most of them were good to fantastic, though there are some inexcusable teachers. For instance, my Liberal Arts Math teacher in Junior year was completely incompetent. He was rude, he would spend most of the time complaining about students who were using their cell phones while he was instructing the class than actually teaching and he wouldn't just send students out (so the class just became accustomed to walking over him since he never did anything) as someone who just wanted to get through it, because Liberal Arts is just a stupid class and was easy for me, whenever I would ask him to just continue with a lesson instead of grandstanding and bloviating for exceptional amounts of time, he would shout me down or insult me. I'm fine with teachers being restrictive with electronics, I genuinely don't care all too much, but when someone spends so much time, every day, every week, and never does anything, it's just punishing the students who are actually there to learn (or in my case, just get through the curriculum), because the people who don't do anything don't care and aren't ever punished. Plus it just leads to people becoming disillusioned and realizing they can spend the whole class on their phones not paying attention, because teachers like that never do anything. Not to mention how teachers like this scold the entire class over a few idiots sitting in the back of the class who don't care at all. And this teacher wasn't just an outlier in this respect--for instance, my Sophomore World History teacher would do the same thing, punishing everyone for the actions of a few. It runs counter to how education is supposed to be. Instead of learning with your fellow students and respecting them, you begin to actively begrudge their existence because they're just making it so you get shouted at, so you can't do the classwork and be done with it, and it devalues the education as a whole. Either teachers should be strict but fair or they should be lenient and fair. They should be consistent in their punishment, and not try and crucify a student for asking the teacher to actually do their job for the people who care.
This speaks to a larger issue with the school as a whole. Teachers just think that they are these hotshots who can never be criticized. Even when they're doing something blatantly wrong, even when they're called out for their blatantly false pretenses for lambasting a student, many of them feel that they are perfect. That students can't say "Well, hey, could we please get on with the curriculum without you derailing it every other minute?". This attitude is predicated on this false sense of decorum, to the point where they actively are missing the point of school in general. Open discussions should be had and teachers should be more humble, I know there are quite a lot of them who are and recognize when they might make a mistake or something, but as the saying goes, "A few bad apples spoil the bunch".
There is also a massive issue with the school's idea of sticking like five classes in the cafeteria or auditorium whenever there are too many teachers absent for the number of available substitutes. While this is a decent idea in principle, in execution it is horrendous. Something one might describe as a "clusterfuck". The substitutes never knew what they were doing. Many times they wouldn't even give out the assignment which the normal teacher had designated, or if there wasn't an assignment, they would still berate students for not doing work (even though there was nothing given). This is compounded by there being several substitutes who never coordinate anything between one another, so you could end up being in there with nothing to do, and every single sub coming up and yelling at your class for not doing any work throughout the 45 minutes.Can't say anything more because character limitresponse / report this review -

I am currently attending this school and I am a Junior. Or as some would say in 11th grade or 3rd year. This is not a bad school. Most of the teachers will help you if you need anything to pass their class. I didn't give it a 5 star because administration and most students are incredibly rude. Administration will not tell you why not to do something and will yell at you when you have no idea what's going on. Then when you ask they get all defensive and yell even more. All you can do is walk away angrily with them being all prideful and their nose to the sky. Now the students can be nice. But they all start too much drama when it isn't necessary. Then you are the heartless one because apparently you don't care enough for them.

The school is a great place for learning, understand what you want to do or become as an adult. The reason i didn't give this five stars is because of the other students don't pick up their trash or gum. First year of 2017-2018, hope it gets better

It's more of the students attending that make this a bad school. They are snobby, and rude, and spread lies and rumors like a wildfire for attention. The workload is a little tough but it's doable. The teachers talk behind the students back a lot also, and some have honestly asked my friends to watch out for other students and to be their "spy" to see if the bad ones are doing things they aren't supposed to. That's not their job, their job is to learn. In my class, the older students flushed my teachers pass down a toilet, and threw glue sticks at our roof. And let's not forget how annoying the administration can be when you walk past the white! I'M NOT ABOUT TO BE HIT IN THE HEAD WITH A BALL DURING LUNCH, BECAUSE YOU DON'T WANT ME TO CROSS THE LINE.

This school is not recommendable. Some of the only enjoyment I had in this school was making fun of it with my friends. The administrators are unbelievably annoying, the principal is inept and cannot even maintain the rules which he writes (thankfully), the school has no care or funding for the arts (i.e.: theatre, guitar, keyboarding, etc.) and would rather spend the majority of their money on sports programs, which I'm sure is just a sensible business practice, but is insulting to the students who care deeply for the arts (not to mention that this isn't a for-profit institution), a large percentage of the faculty has no care for the education of the students, the guidance counselors are always, always unavailable (and even when they are, they're not very helpful), and some teachers just aren't the best. The faculty pretends to care about our education, but you don't have to look too hard to see that they really don't. There are several very important pieces of information that students are simply not well-informed about, and the excess of useless information thrown at the students creates the illusion, as a student, that you are being told everything you need to know to succeed and even overachieve in high school, but in reality, there is so much that the school simply fails to inform students on, such as how to make up failed classes online with no penalty, how to graduate early, which classes and options are available to you, the importance of volunteering, etc. On top of all of this, there's Grad Plan, where, every 4 1/2 weeks or so, an hour is set aside from the school day to go over the midterm progress report or report card, recording the grades on a sheet of paper, and writing down reflections and goals on another sheet of paper. I'm just going to speak for everyone when I say that this helps absolutely no one. And yes, there might be a few people here or there who genuinely benefit from the intended purpose of Grad Plan, which is fine. But why would the school continue to waste the time of every other student when only a few students at best are benefiting from Grad Plan? During most of the Grad Plans I've been through, I simply take my midterm progress report / report card and ignore everything else, sitting there doing nothing productive for the rest of the hour, and I know for a fact I'm not the only one who does this. There are also some nitpicks that I have with UHS that are somewhat subjective, such as pep rallies being unbearably awful and a complete waste of time, the mere concept of arena subbing, and the placement of the stairs and the doors on the second floor buildings which leads to clutter (you know exactly what I'm talking about). Not to mention the cafeteria "food" and dress code, which are both completely different problems that have nothing to do with UHS, just the Volusia County school system, which might just be worse than the school itself. While this may be one of the better schools in the county, I would definitely recommend sending a student to a school outside of Volusia County if possible, such as Seminole County. I've heard great things about Seminole County schools from several people, and nothing but horror stories about other Volusia County schools. However, I will absolutely admit that I found plenty of enjoyment and substance with some of the teachers, such as most of the junior and senior teachers. And the campus looks fairly decent, at least when it isn't covered in litter.

Class of 2014. Attended from 2011 - 2014, best education I received from any school , many teachers willing to go the extra mile to tutor students and help them to succeed. Tons of privileges like pep rallies and lunch out even for students who had behavioral issues like I did they really did a great job in working with me and developing traits that carried over into life after high school. Tons of opportunity however I will agree that the arts are generally overlooked in preference of sports but I think it's like that with a lot of high schools. Over all I think this is the best high school in the area if you live around this way don't send your child any where else and if they have problems just let them do virtual school which is another very constructive learning environment. I give this school 4 out of 5 stars for being awesome and trying their best.

Walker Lacorte. Before you speak, you must go through the experiences first. It's a pretty school, but if you're looking for some grade A school and I'm assuming that's what you think this school is since you want to come here "asap". You won't find it here.
In short. Electives are not funded at all, they'll hire any teacher to teach. The children are extremely immature. Good luckresponse / report this review
