Got in my first fender bender on campus last night and the officer could not have been nicer about the entire situation. He made sure I was okay and took me somewhere to sit with me until my parents arrived for over an hour. I don’t think I could have gotten a better officer for my situation. Thank you UAPD and my officer for all you did for me!!
A very beautiful and small campus with nice infrastructure however I would not recommend it to anyone who would not be a commuter. There are not that many great things to do on a campus compared to other campuses. The rec is very nice and its nice how all my classes are close to each other. Some professors are horible yet at the same time ive had some amazing professors. The worst thing ive found is creating a schedule here. For most of my classes there is only one or two options to take and as a result my schedule is a complete mess with classes late at night, long periods of time in between, and even had days where i had class from early in morning to late at night.
I do not have anything negative to say about the University of Akron. Quality education taught by quality professors.
If I could give this school no stars I would, they lied to me the entire time when attempting to get me to come to the school. I work full time and I am an adult so I was looking for evening classes or possibly weekend classes. I just finished at tri- c and was looking for the same flexibility due to my work schedule. Informed this to the many academic councilors that I had spoken with and all of them stated yes that the University could accommodate me but they can’t tell me which classes are offered at what time until I speak with a scheduling councilor. I don’t mind the payment to apply but then they also make you pay for orientation. So I attend orientation and it’s supposed to last for majority of the day, I meet with the councilor and he proceeds to tell me he can enroll me in 1 class and that maybe I should go part time because ALL of the rest of my classes are during the day..I immediately leave and ask for a refund and they have been dodging me ever since. I am not expecting the refund for applying but I was blatantly lied to and they won’t refund my money. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIMEALL THEY WANT IS MONEY!!!
In the moderately sized and mediocre town of Akron Ohio comes a beautiful but mediocre university. Nothing is truly impressive of the school. It is heavily updated and the classes are nice but it is very basic.
If you are international student don't come. They overcharge international student and try not to offer the right classes you need. The engineering department is the worst they have not enough knowledge just bunch of old racist people. They think that they r the only school and forgot that students pay more than 14k per semester. They pretend that they care but they don't. Next year more than 100 student is transferring out because of the racist advisors
I have gone to the university of akron for 4 years now. I'm not gonna lie I have had multiple issues with the school itself. I was not a direct admit to the college of engineering and was given a general academic advisor at Simmons hall. All of them have absolutely no idea what they are doing. My advisor told me to take certain courses during a particular semester and because of his advise it added another year onto my major. With that said I love the biomedical engineering program that akron offers. All of the professors are super nice and are perfectly willing to help with whatever you need.
Akron is one of those schools that, depending on your department, will alter your experience here. Akron is also a school that has little to no social activities. This isnt really a big deal to me but if you are looking for the "college experience" your probably not gonna get it at Akron. Akron is focused more on its academics and prides itself on engineering. Akron also has a difficult engineering curriculum if there are any potential engineering majors reading this.
Earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Akron. What a garbage commuter school. School does nothing for students or helping with job placement. I wish I would have gone to Kent State Stark Campus for first two years, and saved money. Don't go here all four years; you're a fool if you do. Thankfully I worked contacts to land an excellent job. The fact I had an engineering degree cinched career for me, not that it was from Akron. This place is simply the worst. I should have spent extra on a degree from Case Western, or saved money at Kent - Stark Branch.
I'm finishing up my first year at UAkron and I'm transfering to Kent next semester. Its a commuter school so not much social inclusion outside of sports and academics. Classes are small and professors are good. Financial and student services is always making mistakes and sending me to different parts of the campus to get rid of me. Forced to pay for a usless "First year class" that followed no guidelines in the syllabus and had an awful professor/advisor (Bernadette Citano). Buildings are confusing as hell and getting around campus when it's busy is a nightmare. The worst part is parking because there is never a parking spot that you don't have to pay for and ridiculous parking tickets. I've never got a ticket in my life until UAkron. Overpriced meal plans that offer bad food. Financial problems and a declining student body since 2013. Would not recommend.
A slightly better education institution. Better than Kent State.
