Do not meet with Joy Montgomery. Shopped online as I would talk and be vulnerable and could see how districted her eyes were doing zoom sessions. I could see a different screen she was looking based on the glowing reflection n her eyes. Relies on cliche phrases like “it’s a journey” and then goes back to shopping online. Has a sassy judge mental attitude when her beliefs of my thoughts don’t align with hers. Has no business dealing real conditions, maybe only mild stress. Under qualified- panicked during session and used a judge mental tone and her facial expression was unkind. Worst experience in therapy ever.
I’m in complete agreement with Bill Cleveland. Afte that review was left 3 months ago they are still using the same intake script. My understanding is that a 15 minute consultation would also include consultation, not a “what’s your name, who is your insurance provider”. Also, after explaining my predicament they asked which counselor I’m interested in, and I replied “the best one suited for the job”. Common sense here. Also, they asked me which location…”the one closest to my house”. Common sense. For the up front questioning to be concerning insurance is not the right way to treat a person in need. Help first, otherwise you’re talking greed. Also, I received no email correspondence after I was told I would. I could not get ahold of the truism center via phone call so I contacted the therapist personally and basically begged for help. Turns out the therapist is more interested in posting on their social network and dressing up with their partner rather than simply picking up the phone and talking to someone in desperate need. And we wonder why there are so many lost people out there! SMH.
The Truism center has been a PHENOMENAL experience for both my mental health and overall lifestyle. Robb And his team knew from my intake exactly who to pair me with and my counselor did an amazing job at helping me figure out realistic solutions to my day-to-day struggles through guidance on coping mechanisms, and planning for scenarios that trigger anxiety, depression, anger, etc. The best part of all is that Robb’s team has brought the ‘human’ element back to counseling! I recommend the Truism center to anyone looking for real world ways to improve any of their mental health and relationship needs
The Truism Center has been an asset to the West Michigan counseling community. As the President-Elect of the West Michigan Counseling Association and a school counselor at a local district, I can confidently say that Robb and the Truism Center are fulfilling such a great need. The Truism Center has a diverse staff with multiple specialties, which truly satisfies a niche for everyone. I have used them both professionally and personally, and the therapists are amazing. Robb, the owner/founder, was recently awarded the Douglas Blocksma Award by WMCA, which is presented to an individual who is advancing the field of counseling. If you are looking for kind, receptive therapists, look no further!
I will not be using The Truism Center for counseling. Their website indicates a 15-minute phone consultation with a counselor to assess fit. We scheduled an appointment with a counselor. Before the call, we received four emails reminding us of the upcoming appointment. We received no call. Mark Lodenstein, who must be the office manager, called 40 hours after the missed appointment to apologize that something went wrong in their system. However, despite our putting in the requisite information in our meeting request, he was unprepared to provided us an alternative or reschedule. He was far more focused on what insurance would pay for than what we sought in a counselor. In fact, when I noted that we had previous issues with a different counselor and insisted on a phone consultation to get started, Mark said the best he could do is offer an email with a potential counselor. Clearly, systems at Truism are broken. Why do they offer something on their website, the initial free phone consultation, when in reality they do not offer that? I'm not going to open myself up to working with a company that doesn't have its system together up front, because that would most likely lead to greater problems in the future.
The owner Rob called me to "apologize" for a negative experience and suggested I remove this review. The removal of this review appeared to be his main motivation for calling me, since he offered little else except trying to talk over me. He indicated that they do not offer a phone consultation with therapists for fit, despite the misleading information on their website. Talk about bait & switch.
