  Bugs. I live in a ground floor apartment backing up to the woods and have killed 10+ cockroaches in my room alone in the past month. I keep my room spotless, we've called the exterminator four times, and they keep getting in. It's maddening and disgusting. When we confronted the property manager about it, he told us to purchase our own smoke bombs and toss them in the woods. Why should residents be forced to do management's job? If bugs are a problem, take the necessary steps to please your residents. But that's clearly not in the best interest of management.
  
  Maintenance. I moved in a month ago and in that time we have had a broken dishwasher and washing machine. We've complained for a month and nothing has been done. Every time we go in it's the same story - "you're on the top of the list, we'll get to you tomorrow," but nothing ever happens. I've become well acquainted with Columbia's laundromats at least.
  
  Utilities. My roommates practically refuse to run the AC. It was 78 in the apartment when I arrived, I can't sleep when sweating. And so I'll turn the AC to 74 at night so I can sleep for more than an hour at a time. They always turn it off for being cold, it can't stay on for more than a couple hours at a time. But somehow we still accrued overages from the utility company. Furthermore, the included wifi that the complex provides is really just a hole in the wall. Plan to bring your own router, or live in the dark.
  
  Everything else. Upon moving in, the apartments were not cleaned. There were dead roaches on the floor (should have got out then, but maybe they had just cleaned?), walls were filthy, and the dumpsters were overflowing. My roommate asked before arriving if the beds were queen or fulls, and he was told queens, so now my sheets are too big. Why even lie about that? Upon meeting the property manager and asking for access to the fitness room, I was told they were out of key fobs and would get more "soon." No word on that. There's a complete lack of communication from these guys. Prior to moving in I called them maybe 5 times trying to clarify issues, no response until I missed my move in date, and they were upset. The only time I've received anything about this apartment is when the utility company came knocking to collect money from me, go figure. They only accept payments via money order for initial deposit (yet another headache). For the love of god, do not live here. And if you do, make sure it's as far from the woods as possible, and that everything works upon moving in, because it won't get fixed.

  I would NOT recommend living here. Since the day I turned in my application to live here, its always been something with the front office staff. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and signed my lease despite issues with my application and I regret that decision. I should not have ignored the beginning signs. It has not even been a month since I moved in and I am beyond frustrated with the lack of communication and organization of the front office staff. I've pretty much lost faith in their ability help me with the issues that I'm having with my apartment. It's ridiculous that they want so much for rent and utilities but provide subpar customer service in return. I have a long 11 months left on my lease and I am impatiently waiting until the day I can move out.

  Ive been living here since August 2016, and as someone who has lived in many different apartments in Columbia, whether it's Student housing or Conventional housing, I have to say this is the best deal for the money. You get so much space, it's homey, the staff are great. And even though it's close to the stadium you don't have to get caught up in the traffic. I love here. Definitely would recommend

  The Southern @ 1051 fromerly known as Copper Beech has a lot of great things that is going in there favor. They are under new management with a great staff in the office. They also have a lot of new improvements going on around the complex. They got the camera's up and running. They have a good 24 hour fitness center that is great for students with busy and unusual schedules. I would definitely refer a friend if they was looking for a place to live.

  My experience while living at Copper Beech (now known as "The Southern @ 1051") was interesting. However , Rose, the property manager made the best of it ! I can't tell you how helpful she has been and what a huge impact she has had on my life ! If you ever need anything at all, and I mean anything , feel free to talk to Rose. She is so understanding and will go out of her way to handle things ! Management that care is so important! I highly recommend looking into The southern @ 1051 if you are looking for a place to live! Like I said , management is great , as well as the staff. Many improvements have been made and I'm sure there are more to come ! Please ,Check it out !

  Copper Beech, now known as The Southern @ 1051 is great! They are under new management and they have the most helpful and understanding crew. I genuinely enjoy talking with the staff because they are so quick to help you when its needed. Rose is so wonderful with any questions you may have! I've had no problems with my place at all. It is very spacious and very reasonably priced, especially compared to places near by. You do have to look out for overages, but even those are reasonable. I think the new management has done great things for this property and I would highly recommend looking into it!

  I've moved to copper beech in august 2016 had a smooth move it the staff was very helpful. I love this apartment complex you get A LOT of space for your money. The balcony is cool for when you want to sit outside on a nice cool night and relax the kitchen and living are perfect space for entertaining guest. The bedrooms are so spacious and the private bathrooms are a seller. I really like that there is a guest bathroom in the living room area so guest don't have to use mines. This is great place to live with a lot of perks.
