We had a very nice Christmas at the Greenbrier. The amenities are excellent, although I am surprised they do not have a hot tub in the pool area or spa. The sporting clays course is always fun. I got a hair cut, they did a nice job, and I felt the price was reasonable. I wish more amenities were included with the stay like perhaps bowling, wine tasting, iceskating, or the bunker tour, but we did enjoy the ballroom dancing class and afternoon tea times that were offered.

I booked the room, but was unable to go due to family emergency. My husband & son stayed in the villa for the weekend which was explained by reservations to me as 4 bedrooms with a common area. Once my husband arrived, the common area was closed off immediately only to be left with a very cramped bedroom and no way to keep items cold. My husband requested a mini fridge, it never came. The charge was a group rate, the hotel rooms at the very least were larger & had a mini fridge in the main resort. Honestly, you get more space along with ice, mini fridge in the Holiday Inn Express or any hotel offering suites. My husband said it was the WORST hotel experience he has ever had and this is a resort not a hotel so that is quite a statement. Uncomfortable beds, pillows and cramped space, honestly I would skip this experience. When I spoke to management they offered no solution, only tried to convince me I was made aware of the cramped space & facilities. NEVER AGAIN - STAY AWAY- OVER PRICED - TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE (MANAGEMENT)

Arrived early on a Saturday morning (Oct. 7, 2017 8:30am) for the BUNKER TOUR and the front of the hotel was bathed in glorious sunlight. It makes for stunning pictures. The hotel’s interior is an eclectic mash-up of bright and pastel colors, elegant designs and finishings, and crazy carpet and tile patterns that seem impossible, but somehow manage to work well together to make an incredible palatial, luxurious, opulent, and magnificent visual.
The Bunker Tour starts 15 minutes earlier than your “posted start time”, and they tell you this, so don’t lolly-gag around and drift up at the last minute holding everyone else up because you want to be fashionably late. They do take your phone and all electronics, give you a receipt, and a second tour representative brings them along and locks them up in a room at the beginning of the tour inside the bunker. Allow time for this as well.
As a group you walk from the Trellis Lobby a distance over to elevators that take you up to the West Virginia Wing of the hotel, then the tour starts at one of the blast doors. Onwards into a large convention hall and showroom, another blast-door (this one bigger), one of the Congressional work-meeting rooms (you see the picture on the website), down long sterile military-gray halls towards a pair of rooms filled with museum-quality memorabilia from before the Bunker was deactivated, and then you get to watch a movie showing a history of the bunker showing why and how it was built. Another blast-door, a view down a football field-long, dark access tunnel, decontamination shower rooms, generator rooms, and a dining hall. In between all of the room visits you get a LOT of background and history of the Bunker that’s not included in the short film.
Remember - They do take your phone and all electronics, give you a receipt at the beginning of the tour. You get them back at the end of the tour after the dining hall. They walk everyone out as a group to a common place and then you’re free to go from there.
For the price, and the detailed history of the Bunker and what you get to see, I’d say it was worth having done it. I drove 3-hrs one-way for the sole purpose of the tour and don’t regret it. Overall quite enjoyable and well worth my time!response / report this review -

Too many stuck up rich people here. A guy came in restaurant with his dog and let the dog sit on the seat and slober his mouth over the table. The service wasn't that great, given they didn't take the health concerns from the dog seriously. Hopefully the WV department of health took off the smirk on their faces. Service fee of 6.5 percent is a huge ripoff and should be illegal given its called a fund. A fund is voluntary. A tax is involuntary. Just call it a tax of you're forcing us to pay another 6.5 percent for items and service. This place got an extra star because the grounds are nice and it's also nice to experience a little bit of history despite being surrounded by snobs.

The rooms could stand an update. The rest of the hotel is lovely though. I really enjoyed taking a run on the grounds and visiting the church for quiet solo prayer. I had a great massage at the spa. The dinner at Prime 44 was delicious. The breakfast buffet in the main dining hall was delicious as well. I got to swim in the Vintage indoor pool that reminded me of a 1950s synchronized swimming movie. The casino was very full and bustling. Golf definitely looks like the thing to do there.

Absolutely amazing! This resort is incredible, the staff is so welcoming and helpful, the entire property is stunning and the rooms are great! We got a room with two double beds and there is plenty of room with comfortable beds and large bathroom. All of the restaurants on property look amazing but we started with Sam Snead’s at the Golf Course, which was out of this world, and ended at The Forum. Can’t wait to come back again for a weekend getaway!

We were overnight guests in a cottage room. The room was spacious and beautifully appointed. The king sized bed was very comfortable. Dinner in the main dining room was as expected; a bit old-fashioned, excellent service and decent food. The highlight of our evening was the Casino. Only open to guests, the Casino was full service with every from baccarat to craps. An excellent adventure and we will definitely be repeat guests!

Ate at the restaurant there. The food was quite good. We had 10 people in our party. The wait staff was very friendly. Would highly recommend the milk shakes.

This is amazing you don't ever have to leave this facility if you don't want to. it is gorgeous Sittin on 11000 Acres horseback riding to 2 Olympic swimming pools bowling alley movies everything and the setting is just beautiful look it up on the internet built in the eighteenth century decorated by famous decorator has a banker below ground for the president and his dignitaries now they let you tour it very interesting. Craftsman have rented cottages on the out skirt fine craftsmanship

My husband and I just returned home from a 5 day/4 night stay and I have to say I feel so let down. There weren't any staff here at the house waiting for us, no valet, no maid service, no wait staff, no bellman. We actually had to park, unload and unpack our own luggage! lol We went to one of the nicer restaurants here in our town to try and let ourselves down easy but nothing and I do mean nothing, compares to the attention to detail and service we received at The Greenbrier. I see some are mentioning the automatic 20% gratuity and the preservation fees that are added to all transactions during a stay and yes that does happen but we felt it was the least we could do as our part in maintaining such a national treasure! The hotel and grounds are immaculate. The food was perfection. The spa/salon treatments were pure luxury and I would honestly live there if they would have me and if I could afford it! The staff were top-notch, friendly and so very attentive. The activities are endless, the afternoon tea was delightful, the golf course (although still being repaired after the flooding) was so much fun. We were there for 5 days and feel we barely scratched the surface of the history the resort holds. We will be returning as often as possible and hopefully to spend time in each season to enjoy everything the hotel has to offer. Definitely a walk back in time and a time we will never forget.

I had won a trip to the Greenbrier Resort in the winter and was thinking it was going to be somewhat boring without golf. Boy was a wrong! My girlfriend and I had a blast there! We were able to go bowling, take a bunker tour, have some great dinner on site at the restaurants and enjoy the Christmas celebrations. We didn't have to leave the resort at all and the drive in from Roanoke was gorgeous. I highly recommend it to anyone. We did their off road jeep excursion and it was a blast, I would go back just to do this!
