They have made upgrades to the parking making it easier to find a spot. There are outdoor spaces for meeting people and relaxing. There are these white chairs that are lighted giving a glowing effect. There is also a swingset that has lights on it. There are a good number of stores and activities, I come here to go to wiseguys. The comedy club is great.

Took the grandkids to the movie on Tuesday discount day and while waiting, they were playing on the teeter toter and playing on the "grass". It's a pleasant surprise in the middle of the city. Lots of little picnic type areas and it's family friendly. Also went to the Clark Planetarium which is one really good place to take kids from 7-70. Saw a movie there about the Earth, looked at the exhibits and played the games. Lots of interactive and hands-on things for kids of all ages to enjoy. It's a nice outdoor mall that has things for different people of all ages. The fountains are cool when they get that going. There's sporadic holes in cement in an area that you can easily walk across. But when water shoots out of those holes randomly like streams of silly string shooting out. That's when the inner child wants to come out and play in it. The Gateway Mall is about 2 blocks long. A nice atmosphere. And you can easily take UTA Trax there and not have to worry about paying for parking.

I had a blast coming here with my sister and her kids. The children ran around the water fountains and had a wonderful time. I was impressed by the variety of seating options and how comfortable and beautiful it was. After the kids were done we stopped in this awesome candy and soda shop for treats. I can't wait to bring my kids here to play.

I am extremely exited for their renovations. Gateway has a lot of potential and I am SURE that they are going to get a lot better with the new updates. It already looks a lot better than it did. I love love the new outdoor hangout areas they are so creative and fun. This is going to be pretty popular during summer! Can’t wait to see the next changes

Very nice shopping experience. Awesome stores. My favorites are Clark Planetarium and Discovery Gateway. I would give it a 5 star rating if there were better parking options, where you don't need to walk so far.

I like the layout and one spaces. Feels a bit less artificial than city creek. Lot of empty storefronts currently, construction just started on redesign project (A Dave & Busters is going for some reason). Living adjacent, i like to take advantage of the open spaces and food trucks. As the "mall" consists of a private drive, access is controlled by a herd of security and police. Be advised directly across 200 S you can't walk 100 ft without being offered crack & heroin for sale. Not an exaggeration. But the northern side is a nice place for dinner and a movie. Update: they have added a whole bunch of landscaping and furniture to the inside areas. Artificial grass, swings, teeter totters, fireplace, fun chairs. It is a huge improvement. Still cold though and still Wish that they had covered walkways. It is horrible to walk around in bad (regular utah) weather. Half the stores are empty. But nice events there.

I would really love to give Gateway a higher rating. It could be a really cool place. But it felt like only 3 out of every 10 stores were open. So many stores have pulled out or closed it makes it hard to "shop" for much of anything. I loved the area though, the fountains were beautiful and plenty of seating. It's a shame most stores are gone.

With The Gateways vision to be a world class dining and entertainment date night destination with unique restaurants not found anywhere else in Utah I think a full service Steak n' Shake would be the perfect fit for that vision. After a late night on the town there is no place better to grab a affordable bite to eat with friends or your date than a Steak n' Shake. With the Gateway food court and Jason's Deli gone getting a quality low cost burger or fries or sandwich is hard to do after one of the many events that take place in the area every night or during people's lunch breaks. It would be the only full service Steak n' Shake in Utah so it would become a destination for people all over the Wasatch front that miss the joys of the full experience only Steak n' Shake can offer. It's basically like the feel of a 24 hour Johnny Rockets with way better food but McDonald's prices. Taking all these things into consideration a full service Steak n' Shake seems like a can't miss option for The Gateway out of all the other restaurant options they could choose from to fulfill their vision.

When we said that we were going shopping at The Gateway, local people actually told us not to bother as a lot of the major stores have closed and moved to the new City Creek mall. As we were looking for a specific store, we were committed and went there on a sunny Saturday afternoon.
The first thing that strike us was how quiet the place is, the mall is open air and spread over a couple of blocks with on street and above street levels. There were hardly any shoppers around. Quite a few stores are closed. Some shops are doing better than others but the lack of foot traffic is unmistakable.
We then decided to visit the food court for a bite to eat. The food court was quite large. A number of food outlets (including a McDonald's) surrounded tables and chairs in a U shape. The crazy thing is that there is only 1 outlet still operating, a Panda Express. Every thing is closed and shuttered. Only about a quarter of the food court is lit and still in use (by a few diners). I have never seen anything like this before. It was really surreal and confirm that the mall is on its last leg.
The weirdest thing is that the mall is well maintained, patrolled constantly by security staff and seems to function, at management level, as per normal but no one is there to use it. Very sad.

The gateway is really cute and nice. The only thing that could be better is if there were more options for food. I appreciate that security is there to keep the place safe, as the gateway is in the middle of a heavily populated homeless area. This makes me feel okay about taking my young children there.

I've always lived the gateway! I proposed to my wife there actually! Fun fountain area for kids! Decent arcade! A cool children's museum and Clark's planetarium is a absolute must see! The setting sun cast a beautiful light on this mall! The cons are the theatre is expensive and not worth it when far cheaper options are available and parking can be a nightmare if you want free parking. Also an occasional homeless guy wanders in to beg. But in general it's way nice and safe, cops always close by so I'd let my kids wander about here.

I first moved to Utah in 2006 and this mall was amazing since then I've moved to a few different states then back here. There wasn't a bad homeless problem like there is today. The mall is kept in excellent condition but there is no stores anymore it's quite sad actually this used to be a fun spot for our family. The homeless make being down here pretty uncomfortable, I lived in downtown Houston where there is over 2 million people and they never let that happen in such nice areas. I did notice signs on the remaining stores that said please do not support pan handlers, so I'm sure that's the reason why this mall has gone under so badly.

Oh the poor Gateway, how I wish there was something that could fix it. I love the open yet enclosed feeling, but it's dead. Oh so dead. While there, I took my kids to the kid's museum--still lively and so much fun--and got ice cream at the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory--delicious as ever. I just wish it weren't a ghost town!
