Had a Saturday morning tee time. The check in was prompt, but no friendly greeting or welcoming feeling. Carts are old and tired, with ours barely starting all day. Tough course, with tees and fairways full of weeds and bare spots. Many, many dead trees on the course. Not much maintenance going on here. Greens in very nice condition, but most are crowned or very large, leaving long, extremely difficult putts. Playing here for the first time is tough, as you don't know the greens and find yourself with impossible downhill putts. Clubhouse a pleasant surprise, with good service from a great looking bartender. But the golf was marginal at best.

This is a good value golf course. Mostly flat and straight on the front nine, with 6 of its 8 water holes on the back nine. While not necessarily pristine, hole after hole it is consistently playable.

Customer service was awful, man in clubhouse was rude even after we waited patiently for him to finish his personal call which lasted 5 minutes after we walked up to the counter to check in. Carts needed to be retired 10 years ago, we took 1st one back thinking we just picked the wrong one but 2nd was worse than the 1st. Course is a beautiful layout but the course maintenance is non-existent. Cart paths were hardly worth advertising. Full of potholes and mud holes. It's sad that a course of this caliber could be so under appreciated by its owners.

Fascinated by the layout the first time I played 15 years earlier. Found out it's a Desmond Moorhead design and that answered all my questions. Play Stone Harbor CC (NJ) for point of reference. As far as conditions go it is summer here in mid Florida and greens were shag carpet slow. Fairways in ok shape but overall conditions reflect a declining course struggling to hold on. For all you course design geeks worth a look at some classic bunkering and interesting green complexes.
