This is one of the best museums in Chicago. You could literally spend hours here. The staff is super friendly and helpful. This place is like a amaze. You could defiantly get lost for hours looking at art. They also have a modern wing. I suggest going to Millennium Park and taking the sliver bridge to the museum for a cool experience and view of the city.

The store has awesome items to choose from.

I legit love this place.

It's a well maintained intercontinental location where some east coast style meets the midwest charm of various centuries. The museum is an ultimate necessity for anyone who plans to visit any museum in the Middle West, especially for those who already have any interest in any art. Everybody will need a whole day to check out the Louvre of Illinois.

The Art Institute is my happy place. Their exhibits alone make The AI noteworthy. But exploring the exhibits and displays you don't often hear about is where the true magic lies. A must is the miniature rooms in the basement. Love love love. Your imagination will go wild.

The Art Institute is a clear gem in the awesome world of Chicago museums. There are obviously some world class museums here, but if you want to see something that you may only ever see in places like Paris then spend a day here. The staff were phenomenal, helpful, and very knowledgeable.
Once they found out I was here from out of state with my daughter who is a college art student, and that we only had a few hours before our flight home they were extremely accommodating as well.
We were giddy just having the opportunity to enjoy a place that respects art from all throughout history and generations.
5 stars for an awesome museum in the "4 star" city of Chicago!

My husband and I had a wonderful day at the art institute! We had the most lovely and informative visit with a Docent named Alicia, she shared with use her favorite places to visit while there and even told me where to get the best Chicago popcorn! The museum Is laid out so well, our breath was taken away many times!

The amount of enjoyment I️ received from the art institute was outstanding. It took me back in time, and overwhelmed me with emotion that I️ did not believe were there in the first place.

Each exhibit was thoughtfully placed, and only the most interesting object were included leaving little to no lag time in between showrooms. I️ loved every single second of it, and it only continued to be amazing as my 5 hour journey continued.

The Art Institute indeed what makes museums interesting, and constantly enthralling.

The Art Institute is such an amazing asset to the city. Perfect for tourists and Chicagoans alike. They always have new exhibits that are worth going to, and permanent exhibits that are always worth a visit. I personally loved the new Rodin exhibit, and their new Soviet propaganda exhibit. Lovely to visit during the holidays because of the miniature houses and decorations galore.

My three sisters and their husbands/significant others were in town for Thanksgiving and decided that going to the Art Institute was a must for all of us. The hitch was that I needed a wheelchair to get around. An old ski injury to my left knee has flared up. This past Monday, we made use of the free wheelchairs that you offer. I could enjoy our visit to the Art Institute with my family because you offer wheelchairs. Otherwise, I would have had to stay home. Thank you so much! (You'll be seeing more of me after my total knee replacement surgery recovery. I was reminded how magical your museum is!)

Clearly one of the best in the world! Must visit. Just incredible!!

I recommend taking a CITY PASS if you are a tourist in Chicago and you are in the city for just couple of days. The place like 360 and Willis Tower and other tourist attractions very long lines and may take HOURS!! Me and my friends bought these city passes it was like $90 (September 2017) for 5 places (that’s all the places you wanna pay to see in Chicago) and you get the quick entry to all the places. We could see everything in our 3 day trip to Chicago Just because of these passes. The city pass is valid for 9 days from the day you visit the first place of the 5. You can but the tickets online or at any of the big tourist places like 360 or Willis tower or Art museum etc.

Fantastic place to spend the day if you are into art and history.
Great variety of selection including paintings, sculpture, miniatures, martial collections, architecture, photography and many more!
Try to allow at least 4-5 hours of time for a daily visit to see a relatively satisfactory portion of the collection, but it will undoubtedly take more than a day, if you wish to take your time and experience everything there is.
Don't miss out on the Thorne Miniature Rooms! Breathtaking collection of incredibly realistic miniature living spaces!
A must see place in Chicago!

Love this world class art museum! I have a membership, and I live on the West Coast! I get so much out of every visit there. I also love the Members Lounge with unlimited beverages. It's usually crowded, but I like the people who show up there.

One of the best in the world. Just came back from the Gaugin show. And on the way to the show, saw an exhibit of East Indian art never seen before. Walked by the famous American Gothic painting by Grant Wood - you almost take for granted that it's there. One of the best French Impressionist collections in the world. People from all over the world come here and people in Chicago take this far too much for granted. We are members and proudly support this museum.

Large museum with diverse collection of Works ranging all of our history. Nice to see a large variety of cultures as well. Sometimes description cards for a little difficult to find. Impossible to do Museum all in one day. You should pick a area of Museum and cover thoroughly rather than trying to see whole thing. There is a type of art here for almost everyone, from cutting Edge modernism to baroque French furniture. Worth multiple visits.

A brilliant, well laid out museum with one of the best impressionist collections I've seen outside of Europe. The line can be very long so book online if you can. Along with its collection of iconic and well known European and American works it has several other fantastic, and sometimes quirky (the paperweight collection ??), to spend hours exploring. The Photographer's Curator collection downstairs and the collection of Japanese prints, which though somewhat small is excellent (sadly The Great Wave of Kanagawa was not on display - on rotation in order to not damage the work). A three hour trip is easily spent, and even more would be necessary if you desire to see everything. Well worth the admission.

The Art Institute of Chicago is a all day viewing of historical and modern that is a must do. I saw most of what I wanted in the 3+ hrs there. Definitely worth the price of admission for art enthusiasts. Great Arms and Armor area as well as Contemporary art and Modern art. So much to take in on 3 different levels. A good suggestion is getting an audio guide to listen to what your seeing.

An EXCELLENT collection of art. Truly a great place to gain an introduction and insight into the best pieces of art from each period! My favorite place to visit in Chicago! For lunch I would recommend Hot Woks Cool Sushi (just a block up Michigan Ave) as the cafeteria can be a little expensive.

Always love coming here. The membership really is a good deal. You get free admission for a year and you get to bring a guest with you every time you come. 10% off on food and merchandise!

Every time I visit I see some new section I missed before. Always good for a day trip.

It's usually crowded at the entrance but once you get inside it opens up and isn't as crowded.

World class and huge. Pretty much every genre of art that I've seen in other big cities but more of it under one roof (actually multiple roofs since this place is really large). There are two entrances, one facing the iconic Michigan Ave edge of Chicago's downtown skyline and the other facing Grant Park and the popular Millennium Park bean. Want to experience a cool mix of awesome exterior architecture viewed from a picturesque and stunning landscape adjacent to a huge art museum? Start or stop by the new Maggie Daly Park and Millennium Park before or after your trip to the Art Institute for an unforgettable Chicago experience.

Love the AI! It's been many years since my last visit and I'm so glad to have gone back. We took our kids who had many opinions about the art, which invoked discussion and hilarity. The collections are some of the best in the world. There are works there that I remember from childhood visits and they are still there.

The Art Institute is a must see if you are at all interested in art. There are some really awesome rotating exhibits as well as an impressive modern wing, a collection of Asian art, tons of miniature room models, and so much more. I have gone to this museum a dozen times and still find new things each visit. I
