Service was wonderful! Food was even better. Don't let the outside appearance deter you from the 40! Great place to eat and we even brought our 3yr old niece.

Loved it! Was wanting a pizza after our long day on Lake Superior and this was an amazing pizza! We also ordered breadsticks, which were very tasty as well. This is a small town bar which seemed everyone was ordering pizza from. Great choice and if we are in the area again, we will definitely be stopping.

Our experience recently was much different. On the reccommendation of another local person we ate at the "40" Bar and Grill on a Sunday around 4:30pm a week ago. There were perhaps 15 other customers during the time we were there. After ordering an appetizer and our meals at the same time we waited 90 minutes to receive our appetizer of cheese curds. When the waitress brought them to our table (not hot) we did not get any napkins, fork, small plate, or waters. Then, it took another 60 minutes MORE to receive our meal. We observed another table of people who received their food before us but had arrived and ordered long after us. Another single customer next to us asked if we had ordered a pizza too and stated that he was now waiting over an hour, and asked what was going on. We told him we also didn't know. We had just approached the bar to try and flag down anyone to say that we would not be staying and cancel our meals and pay our check. At that moment our food came, so we stayed to eat the meal. My husband's Stomboli was not even warm inside, and not cooked through. My Nachos were made with a CheeseWhiz topping and generic Tostitos. We also were not served any eating utensils and had to get up and find the waitress to ask for them. During the waiting time we observed the cook in the kitchen yell that he would walk out if another person "said that" to him again, and the kitchen was filled with 'burnt smoke' at one point. After we had our food, the couple next to us were served their food. The woman had Stomboli, and she sent it back stating that her food was not cooked nor warm/hot. The other customer who ordered a pizza told the waitress he was leaving and she talked him into staying 10 more minutes and that it would be out, and he stated that she'd just said it hadn't even been started yet. She gave him some fast talking explanation and he agreed to give it 10 more minutes. By this time we had quickly eaten what we could and went to the bar to get our bill to leave. No staff offered an explanation or apology or complimentary drinks off our bill for the 2 hour wait. I don't know why this bar and grill had such a bad night but it was the worst service and food I've ever had, and with 2 beers/2 sodas it cost $54.!! My husband gave them a $6. tip because he felt sorry for the waitress, not because of good service.
Needless to say we will never stop in Manistique to eat ever again.response / report this review -

The baked brie with apples, cranberries and almonds was heavenly! Fabulous orange, cranberry, walnut salad with chicken.
