Honestly, this restaurant has great vegetarian options with nice servers. The manager was just very obnoxiously rude and made me not want to eat there again.
After eating an excellent Mongolian tofu dish, I decided to order an original boba tea (it's just black tea with milk, sugar, and tapioca pearls). I've had basic black bubble teas (I only order this one flavor) hundreds of times but upon moving Tallahassee, I couldn't find a place that served this kind of tea so I decided to give it a try at Tan's. I can make classic black boba tea at home, but I really wanted to have a go-to place to grab some if I don't have the time. I get the tea and the pearls were nice but the tea was overly sweet and had a bad syrup-like taste to it (I've had this tea and made it many times and I don't know how it could've tasted like this). I asked my server if it could be remade or if I could sent it back, but he sent it back and was very sweet and polite about the whole situation which was why I tipped him an extra two dollars.
Everything SHOULD be fine after that, but the manager asked what was wrong with the tea as I was leaving and I responded that it was too syrup-like and overly sweet (I believe condensed milk was used which wasn't listed in the description and I can't handle that kind of milk) and she kept sternly asking me what was wrong with it since it was popular and I kept giving her the same answer. After she stopped pestering me with the same question, she rudely said that restaurants in general don't take back food (not true) and hinted at how I shouldn't have done that; I asked if the tea could either be remade properly OR if I could send it back and one of my offers was accepted! If neither of those choices was an option then I would've paid for it! I don't know if she felt comfortable belittling me because I'm young or because I'm Asian, but I had every intention to come back UNTIL she gave me a hard time about the order!
I have NEVER gone out of my way in my entire life to write a bad review about a restaurant but what I experienced tonight was downright ridiculous and humiliating.response / report this review -

My whole family LOVE'S Tan's. I can't rave enough about them. I've been going to this location for over 10 years now and they have watched my son grow up. When he is with us he run's for hugs from his favorite cashier. Super sweet staff. Very attentive to your needs. Haven't ever had a bad experience with my food or service. I wish they could open more around town so I could visit more often. You will not be disappointed if you go.

Tan's Asian Cafe is arguably one of my favorite restaurants in Tallahassee. The food is always delicious and the employees are always nice and friendly. If you want amazing Asian food at a great price, you cannot beat Tan's. They are amazing. I highly recommend Tan's.

Great place. Have to try fried duck with hot Indonesian spices. They also have exotic foods that might frighten average american customer. Challenge yourself to try the stew that has pieces of tongue, stomach and intestine!

This is a wonderful place to get some Asian cuisine. The service is fast, friendly and personable; portion sizes are great for the price you pay; and the taste is hard to beat. Give Tan's Asian Cafe a try if you haven't done so already. It's quite the gem of a find in Tallahassee! Be sure to order off the special portion on the back of their menusome VERY tasty dishes!!!

Great restaurant! My wife and I live in Pensacola, FL which is almost 3 hours away and we totally drive the distance for their delicious food. On top of that, we stop by each time we travel East. Very friendly service by their waiters of whom they recognize us now each time we visit. Their menu consists of Chinese-American food and authentic Indonesian food. My favorite dish is their fried noodles! I highly recommend!

Stopped in today on impulse. I found it cheerful and we had nothing bad. I live nearby now so I cannot wait to try the lunch buffet. I hate traveling Capital circle, but I will brave it to go back there again. The owner/lady running the place is so adorable and very welcoming. The 2 dude waiters were sweet and very accommodating. I also look forward to getting some food to go sometime. Everything was plenty tasty.

You know how 1 roll of sushi is never enough but 2 is too many? Well when you order here, they hook it up with a roll and half size portion. Just right. Best place in Tally!

A staple of Tallahassee cuisine, Tan's offers some of the best flavors from Earth's largest continent. I have never been remotely disappointed with the flavor, portions, or service. This place has it all (even free ice cream sometimes). I strongly recommend anything from the Indonesian portion of the menu, but beware of spice levels. Bear in mind my 5 stars might be biased because this is probably my favorite restaurant.

I came in during their lunch buffet. I was going to order off the menu but the friendly server suggested that I try the buffet instead. I'm glad I took his advice because it was great! There were unique offerings (Indonesian cuisine) as well as some more traditional Chinese buffet items. I feel like it was a great deal. Everything I tried was fresh and tasty. The service from the hostess and the servers was great. I had a boba tea too and it was good. Can't wait to go back.

Food, service and venue were wonderful! We hadn't visited Tan's in quite a while and were happy to see the expanded space and menu. We stuck with the usual menu items for this visit but will give some of the Indonesian items a try next time. I've been craving egg rolls lately so they were a must and I wasn't disappointed (hot, not greasy and the filling was tasty). Entrees were great as well. So happy to have a "new" go-to place for Chinese food!! We will be back!
