Heard it's good, reviewed it's good, Tried myself finally and it is surely Good!!!
Very fresh sushi and texture are great!
We made a reservation at 5:30pm (opening hour) and it was packed shortly after..Make sure to reservr your seat before you go!!
There are not enough words to describe the beautiful and magnificent experience I have at sushi ota every time I visit.
The sushi is fresh and the cuts are perfect. Watching the chefs work is pure art. Getting to eat their work is even better. Their green tea Creme brulee is a must order for dessert
I always leave with a huge grin on my face.
Sushi Ota tastes amazing, service is great, and the building is clean. The interior is modern Japanese style. Price is a bit on the higher side but it is mostly worth it. I would definitely recommend Sushi Ota.
This is probably the best quality sushi you can get in San Diego.
My girlfriend and I go to Sushi Ota on every anniversary without exception. Tuna and Uni are just like fresh out of water with amazing texture and flavor! Tamago is very different but has very original taste to it.
It's a even better experience if you sit at the sushi bar~
A highly recommended place to go but book your seats :)
Best sushi in San Diego! Fish is fresh, entrees are delicious. Reservation recommended as wait for tables can be long! Parking is limited.
Amazing customer service and wonderful sushi. Not in the best area of San Diego, but the sushi is probably the best this side of Japan. Best to make reservations well in advance.
I would give Fifty(five zero) stars if I could. Hands down the best sushi place I have been to, including the ones in any other country I had sushi. My favorite is uni and only that. Cannot beat the freshness and taste of ocean. I don't know what they do to their uni, but it is magic! I cannot pass I-5 without having sushi there.
(update) -1 star:
They warned me about the quality of uni due to extreme heat around the area, so that was good, at least they let me know. I am taking 1 star out because: they forgot to include deep fried prawn head with the live shrimp order. Also I noticed quality difference between to go order and dine in. This time I had to make it to go because of my infant baby not being too patient, and I can definitely tell that the quality is a bit off.. Having said all these, I will come back though, when they have better uni and when I can dine in. Their uni deserves a second chance. Will update after next visit.
The best sushi experience of my life! My second time here and it did not disappoint. Don't do the omakase, not because it's bad, but because you can get a much better experience by asking the sushi chef to give you whatever is fresh that day. Just tell them how many courses you want and just appreciate the chefs creativity! They will tell you which ones to use soy sauce and which order it needs to be eaten (in case there are multiple pieces on the plate).
Sushi Ota was amazing not only in US standards but also in Japan standards. I also loved Ota-san's philosophy in great restaurant management. He allows fellow chefs to be creative in their work. Amazing. Will come back in the fall season again.
Absolutely love the sushi here. It is so flavorful and incredibly fresh. The chefs sushi combo is well worth the price, it comes with excellent sushi cuts, make sure you get the amber jack. I've only had one roll, the back pepper scallop, but it is so far the best sushi roll I've ever had in the states. Five stars.
You really need a reservation here. That said, this is some of the best sushi anywhere, let alone in San Diego. If you have the opportunity to sit at the counter, let the chef choose and create things for you, you will be pleased. Otherwise, make sure to ask for the specials, and pay attention to what you see being taken to tables around you: often there are off-the-menu specials that you have to know to ask for. This is a special place, with very very fresh fish!
This place was freakin packed and reservations are recommended. We have two parties totaling 10 people and the hostess was kind enough to work her magic so the tables were behind each other.
Expect nothing but quality food here and your wallet will feel it. Their sushi was fresh and the rice had the right blend of vinegar, texture and temperature. It was truly fancy edible art.
You can't go wrong with whatever is on their menu, but I would skip the oysters.
My wife and I were visiting San Diego. One thing we wanted to try being so close to the ocean was a good place for some Sushi. I quickly saw the reviews of places close to us and saw that this place had pretty good reviews. So we make our way there and as we walked in the door we were greeted with a smile and asked if we had made reservations for dinner. I expressed to them that I was not aware of any reservation was needed and apologized. The manager came up to ask what was the problem they spoke to each other for a while then turned to us and said we have a table for you now. We were both grateful and from that point we knew we made the right choice on going here for dinner. Oh and the food was amazing by the way.
Best sushi place and I would like to go back again! The spicy scallop hand roll and spicy salmon hand roll are my favorite. We were a little disappointed because they did not have uni. I guess we just save the good one for next time. Love this place and highly recommend!
