I was pleased with the level of service my family and me received when we stayed there. The Hotel was neat, clean and well-kept. Not like these other beach hotels that are flophouses. We ate dinner there and the food was pretty good. Hung out at the bar 2 nights and had fun as well.
I was the DJ for a wedding at this venue which was my first time at the Surf City Hotel. Been doing this for 25 years and most of these places just want you "in and out." I didn't get that impression here. The manager John & the staff made sure I was good with my setup, food, cake, etcand did the same for the bride & groom. We kept in good communication all night about the buffet, dessert, cake cutting, etcI was surprised with how good the food was.
If you are looking for a wedding venue in the Southern Ocean county area and want that beachy, seashore vibe, I recommend the Surf City Hotel.
Great hotel, near everything! The food and entertainment were great! Walking distance to the beach and shopping. Rooms were very clean! Looking forward to staying again!
Pubic hairs in the bathrom. Hair tangeled in cheese in the refrigerator as well as a build up of grime. Dirt and mold on widow blinds and air conditioner. Rude bar manager. Got in my face and his behavior scared my 9 and 12 year old. Sand on the blankets. Carpet dirty and not vacuumed very well. I was told that I only had to pay for the first night even though we left and went to another hotel. They charged me for all 4 nights. Worst experience ever.
If there are new owners, let's hope they got some new mattresses. Last time I was there a couple of years ago the bed was as hard as a rock. It was clean and convenient, but I got no sleep. Also the waiters/waitresses at the restaurant should not assume transients don't tip well and give them slow and inattentive service. As a former waitress I'm always prepared to tip at least 20%, but I don't like being treated like a nusance instead of a guest. I understand its hard work, but checking in and being pleasant goes a long way.
Lots of positive changes! New owners and new chefs at the hotel. They've updated it,made positive changes, but have still kept the local flavor. I've had the flounder stuffed with crabmeat twice, and it's been cooked to perfection, not at all dry. Burgers are delicious, onion rings nice and crispy, and vegetable sides are perfect, not overcooked. Fish and chips are a good choice and reasonably priced. The waitstaff is pleasant and accommodating. If the hotel has been your family tradition, you will be pleasantly surprised. It is much better than it has been for many years.
Had a great stay at the Surf City Hotel last week. Loved the beachy atmosphere . The room was clean and the front desk staff was helpful and knowledgeable about the history of hotel and the area. They gave great recommendations of places to visit and eat. Although obviously very busy, Michelle was very nice and helpful and took the time to to talk with us and make sure that everything was to our satisfaction. Great mini-vacation. Would definitely return again.
Great Happy hour. Amazing white pie.
Great place to go and have dinner and to see Gypsy Moon Acoustic Duet the greatest. Will be returning this July and August 2017.
Saw Shorty Long at the surf club. Had a great time as usual.
If I could give a 0 I would. BE AWARE! What type of business renovates a hotel and keeps it open during major construction? Maybe one that see's $$ signs instead of being honest. They also take a payment for a full nights stay 5 months in advance while others just put a hold on the card. Then after already billing tried to charge us more! No way! There are plenty of other hotels in the area that cost the same (or just a little more) and you won't have to deal with nasty managers like Michelle who have no concept of what good customer service is. If you like the smell of dead mice in your shower or a 1950's style firetrapthis is your spot! Don't say I didn't warn you.
They charged me for smoking in my room which I did not do. They refuse to refund me. They were under renovations and failed to let me know until the day I travelled there. The front office was closed when I arrived and construction started at 7 am the next morning. I couldn't be more disappointed.
