I had a great experience at Sunrise House this time around. I've been there multiple times and there's a reason I keep going back. The councilors are amazing. TC's are great to help with anything. Obviously with all businesses people can find a problem with something. You just have to go in knowing that your not going to a 5-star resort. your going somewhere to better yourself and to learn how to deal with life without drugs or alcohol. Sunrise House does that well.

Dorene Zacher is one of the best counselors at Sunrise House. She is extremely educational and compassionate. She guided me through the most difficult time in my life. She helped me through painful experiences and leaded me out the other side with great perspective and direction. Her lectures were always thought provoking and beyond enlightening. She shares of herself to connect with everyone! Unfortunately for Sunrise she is not full time nor is she the clinical director; both of which staff and patients would benefit beyond understanding!!! I personally thank you Dorene for all you have done for me as well as for all the patients you have touched (which is all of them!!!)

Arriving to sunrise it was breathtaking. I kept wondering where I have brought myself. Getting to know the staff and my way around was extraordinary. The community of people were incredible. Most of the staff members were awesome. I learned something new each day. My favorite educator, Dorene is unbelievably astonishing. Her lectures are all very informational, each one either had my crying or laughing. She truly cares about the people. She has helped me and taught me some spectacular things I won't ever forget!

My experience with Dorene as a group facilitator was phenomenal, she will help to open your genuinely cares about the clients! Sarah as a counselor was outstanding, she puts in 110% into her clients and was such a help. They both make life more manageable!

Sunrise House was an awesome experience. A lot of the groups were amazing! the discharge planning was very efficient and thorough. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was the length of time it took to see a doctor. other than that they give an incredible foundation to start your sobriety journey with.

While I was skeptical when I first got in Im glad I stayed. The staff is very helpful, and the community more than welcoming. After a few days I did want to leave, Doreen convinced me to tough it out and kept her word by making her groups more informative than fun, but take my word I haven't had that much fun in a long time. Definitely a great experience overall, highly recommend to anyone.

I will say this from my heart while the schedule is rigorous at 1st it is well worth it. The staff here is second to none. I received so much love and caring from everyone. Foods good and it's beautiful up there. Believe me I gave them a hard time and was kicking and screaming at 1st. So glad I stayed. bottom line - a solid foundation to start my recovery road 😊

I was in the mommy and me program in 2010. I would do it all over again.. not only did I learn what I needed to stay clean but also learnt that I was worth it. They helped me become the Person I am today. I cannot believe it's been over 7 years. Thank you all from the bottom of My soul. Helen and Arianna

Through the years of battling my addiction, Ive been to pretty much every detox and rehab in NJ and sunrise house in Lafayette nj would be my number recommendation to anyone looking for treatment. I’ve Actually there twice (before and after the AAC take over). Clearly the experience after the take was far better then the first because of all of the great upgrades that AAC has brought to the facility. The facility it self is a cool old Monastery with an amazing scenery. It is up in the country of NJ so it’s quiet with no distractions. The place in clean and is being renovated with all new Amenities. The staff is great, clinical and behavioral. I will say there is always room for improment when it comes to some of the clinical staff though but overall eveyone was very welcoming and always trying to help. About 3/4 of them are in recovery so they can relate with you. The day to day scheduled is like any other. They keep u busy all day with not much down time. But with the AAC take over I think a lot of that is being changed . Lastly and probably the most important thing is that the food is pretty damn good. For me that’s always a winner. Like I said I’ve been to A lot of places with some grade F garbage but sunrise house is very good I give a A- . I mean it’s not no 5 star restaurant but compared to what is out there. It was great and I’m picky

I was at Sunrise House for 35 days and it changed my life. I went to Sunrise after an intentional overdose and had little hope that I would ever be anything but a drug addicted failure.
I was not the perfect patient by any means and did not make their jobs easy but they did not give up on me. I believe that the fact that the majority of the staff are recovering addicts gives them a deeper level of compassion and understanding then other programs.
By the time I left I had accepted my disease and embraced the NA program. I continue to thrive by following the suggestions that I was introduced to while a patient.
I am forever grateful to the staff for their support while I was there as well as their continued support and guidance.
    I am a miracle.
    ❤

Sunrise House not only saved but forever changed my life! Their no nonsense approach to recovery was exactly what I needed after failing out of numerous rehab programs over the years. I got the medical attention, the emotional care and the education about the disease of addiction that I desperately needed to live a sober/clean life. The staff understands what type of structure is needed and the Behavioral Techs are compassionate. Sunrise House also has a wonderful Family Program that educates and prepares the family for what is needed to succeed and recover. I revisit often and speak to the patients about my experience. Thank you Sunrise House!

Excellent staff, delicious food, amazing groups; and good meetings every night. This place saved my life honestly, and I would return as many times as I needed if my insurance would cover it, haha. Really amazing experience. Anyone who needs help, this place is a great, and extremely helpful program. Beautiful scenery around, and I know I said it before; but they really do have absolutely wonderful staff that makes you feel as if they truly care. And it's because they do. I had gone to the resort-style rehabs before this, with the full sized bed and the flat screen in our rooms; yet I learned nothing from those places. And while some people may need that kind of environment, I thrived in a more structured and intense environment. 10/10 no complaints at all.

I was at Sunrise House in October 2015. I am still clean and credit Sunrise for jumpstarting my recovery. Although there were some things that could have been better: beds, pillows, food-those are only creature comforts and not the reason that I went to Sunrise in the first place. The staff, with the exception of only a few people, was very compassionate and understanding and willing to share their experience, strength and hope. I made connections with other patients there that I will have forever. You get out of treatment what you put in. I worked hard at Sunrise and have continued to work hard in my recovery after Sunrise. I took the suggestions and applied them to my life. I learned about triggers and other ways to cope. Sunrise gave me my life back
Thank you so much Sunrise House!!

If it wasn't for Sunrise I don't think I would still be alive! I came in for treatment at a time when I was tired of living and tired of hurting the ones that I love. It is Not a Spa so wimps don't apply. But if you are serious about getting help and tired of being sick and tired or tired of living like I was then Sunrise is for you! The wonderful staff will teach you the tools you need and the other patients and staff will LOVE YOU till you Love yourself! Or at least like yourself for the first time in my LIFE!! YOU DESERVE IT!! Take a chance on yourself like I did. Really what do you have to lose?? I had already lost everything that mattered to me. Iam 90 days sober now and still have contact with 14 of the ladies that where patients with me, we built such a special bond. You will too! Please don't give up on yourself give Sunrise a call and let them Help you like they Helped and saved me!! One day at a time!! Life happens but with the tools and a network you can do it!!

I Was At Sunrise House for the 90- Day program from Oct 12-Jan 12 2017. I am sober and clean from my stay and would highly recommend staying at least 30 days if possible or more. It works if you let it. The structure is solid, the people are helpful, and the learning experience is Legendary.

Over fifteen years ago I walked through the doors of Sunrise House. It was not a country club and did not have the five star amenities that are touted and emphasized by many "treatment" facilities. I was NOT there for anything else but treatment for my addiction. I worked hard to "get the muck out" during my time there. The staff was respectful, compassionate and all (that I recall) were in recovery themselves. I have used the tools I was given at Sunrise House and last November I celebrated FIFTEEN years of recovery. If you want what I have and are ready/willing to work for it, Sunrise House is the best investment for your future!

Was there for 14 days and overall it was good.
    Pros
    - I am not drinking
    - The program is good based on the 12 steps
    - The community of people was varied and mostly friendly. There were some problem people but they left after a few days. Remember we are dealing with drug addicts and alcoholics
    - Food was good, better than I expected and more than enough to eat
    - Made some good friends and have not laughed that hard in years
    - Lots of good information, lectures and coursework to help you figure out what is contrubuting and dealing with addiction
    - Helps some clients stay out of jail
    - The staff did help me. Their intentions are to help you even though you may not agree with them

    Cons
    - The men's bathrooms are filthy and disgusting. I don't know how a medical facility can get away with the level of filth. I was afraid to shower so I would go in with my sneakers on.
    - Sleeping is difficult at first. If you can not get a single room on the third floor wait until one opens up. I was on the first floor near the girls lounge and it was like a college dorm with the guys swarming over the girl
    - No where to relax between breaks for men. This is unfair because the women who are fewer in number have 2 lounges. You will be paying around $1000 per day and this is disgraceful that you have to hang out in a hallway and not a single comfortable room to relax in.
    - The walkie talkies keep many people up at night
    - Can't get into your room during the day. This is because there are too many thieves who will steal anything. Not the facilities fault
    - They come into your room at all hours of the night to make sure you are there. This is for suicide prevention and make sure drugs are not being used or brought into the facility.
    - They do treat you like garbage at times. The BT's (Behavioral Therapists) are not trained professionals but are recovering drug addicts and alcoholics most with over 10 years sobriety. I expected a higher level of care.
    - Being yelled at is common.
    - If someone acts out Joe (BT) will take away you privileges or as they say. I don't believe using the pay phone is a privilege if I am paying $1000 a day.

I went to this place wanting to better my self, first time to rehab so I don't know what to expect so, this is how my experience starts,my family and I are greeted by a lovely resepionist who starts the process, and says great things about this place, then my family and I are sent to a room to sit and wait for a for the process to start, so half and hour later this witch comes in and the first thing out of her mouth, I need 2600$ in full, with out a hello how are you what's your name just rips the credit out of my mothers hand, so that was my first sign of they don't care about helping you just getting their paycheck, so the wicked witch comes backs, brings me down to another room to talk to more people to continue the process it's 3 by now no big deal, so the second I get to the other room the witch and this other slob start arguing because the witch sent my parents home without signing any papers and my parents had left by that point, so the slob is angry now and calls my mother back very Rudley and says she needs to come back to sign papers, then she I signed a bunch of things no big deal all good, then I get called over to another lady in the room, this pig has me sit down stars asking more questions very rude again, she asked me around ten times if I'm abused or have family problems I repeatedly tell her no, so she gets angry and says can we say there is family problems????, ok another hint goes off, I say I know that would make your job easier but no miss piggy, another hint goes off in my head now I'm alittle worried about my decision my parents are are gone and I have signed the papers but I'm here to get better, so anyway after that, I get taken away to another lady looked worse then I did 😞 Just 0 Fs givin, I'm here for alcohol, again by the way, first time to rehab, so then Gilbert or aka boy captain America sends me up to detox, by this point it's 5pm so I'm tired and hungry, so I get out into this piss smelling filthy room 218, I'm told a nurse will be in shortly, ok finely I'm ready to start my process after all that, well this is where it really turned for the worse, I walk out of my room to see if there's food it's around 530 nurse came to speak to me, I look and there's no food left, so I have to wait till 8am to eat when my family just paid so much and I don't even get a meal, so there I'm upset whatever I'll get over it, so this guy comes up to me who the room next to mine intouduces himself, I give home my story, thankfully I asked his, so he tells me this is his 33 time in rehab and he has overdosed 6 time shows me his arms, I'm in shock, then he starts trying to tell me about the place this and say we're going to be smoking buddies, so I'm still in disbelief, this is my first time here and my partner is someone who doesn't give a damn about life, I'm here to get my self better and I get paired with a junkie, that must have been good for him to see what it's like to be some what normal, for me it was just like a virus making me sicker, so by then I have seen most of the people and heard what there here for and I talked to maybe 30 people every single one of them had been to rehab for Heroin countless times and were just obviously using the insurance companies, or just didn't care about life, so by then it's 6:30, I'm so depressed at this point no food no one has even talked to me meaning a staff member like I was told, so this girl whacked out of her mind comes up to me and says we can go smoke a ciggerette now, so I'm like whatever I need it after all this, so we go to the smoke area it's a zoo cage for animals, you can't even move a foot in front of you, so I try to go in the corner by myself, I turned around I'm surrounded by herion addicts ready to fight me over sharing ciggerettes, so they start harassing me saying we share cigarettes at this point, it's 7pm, I'm done I know I made a horrible decision, So I asked to be released this moron who was probably drunk himself finally released me at 830pm,the worst staff and place I wouldn't send a dead goldfish there, such a set up. PATHETIC STAFF!!!!

ATTENTION PLEASE READ!!!! My name is Melanie, I attended sunrise house for 6 days and my entire stay there was filled with fear, coldness, lack of sleep, lies and NO help at all when it was needed, not only for myself but for the other patients as well. I watched people suffer and as I was also sick I had to help them because no one else would. This place is disorganized and no matter what you need no one has time to help you because they ALWAYS have something better to do. When my family was already filled with worry and concern they called them and told them lies that they had to restrain me because I saw "something" and it set me off. This NEVER happened and when my father asked what "set me off" they could not answer the question. I got kicked out for "negative behavior" HA and it was the most relief I had in days. PLEASE DO NOT PASS UP THIS REVIEW. I know addicts are hard to believe but this review is nothing but the TRUTH. As I got signed out it was like a domino effect, I watched many others walk out right behind me. I want people like me to get REAL help and to never be put on the back burner and that is all you will receive at sunrise house. If it weren't for the other patients in detox I couldn't have gotten through those 6 VERY long days. We took care of each other while staff didn't know what to tell us. The counselors don't have time for you and while in a detox/rehab program they play one of the biggest rolls in your recovery. I never even got told what my treatment plan was. NOT TO MENTION they missed not ONE but TWO dosses of medications that were very much needed at the time. Then the next day OVER medicated me to the point where I had to get escorted to my bed because I couldn't walk on my own. The BT's are rude and talk to you like you are garbage. I felt like a convict, they take your clothes out of your suitcases and put them into garbage bags.. I guess that's the way they view us. I am not writing this review to scare anyone, I am writing it out of concern because I fear for anyone that goes to this place. I wish whoever reads this the best of luck in the next step they choose to take.

So when i went to SH, i tthought what could these people tell me that i haven't already heardwell i need to let you know. I have learned more in 28 than i had in 2 years in ppatient. Great food, great beds and a genuine sense of family. You want help in NJ? It's a must go. Very happy to live life again.
