  On the one hand, I'm grateful to Sun West for having found a way to approve my mortgage application when my debt-to-income ratio was borderline unacceptable. On the other hand, Sun West's underwriters nearly drove me to drink with constantly-evolving disclosures, and incessant requests for MORE information and MORE documents.
  
  When, only days before my scheduled closing, my Sun West closing agent told me that the amount of replacement coverage afforded by my new insurance policy was not adequate to secure the mortgage, I nearly lost it. The problem was, Florida insurance regulations did not allow for the higher coverages that the California-based Sun West Mortgage underwriters demanded (because the property I wanted to purchase was a manufactured home). At that point - only days away from closing on the house I was selling and with nowhere for my family to go upon that closing - I told Sun West that I was withdrawing my mortgage application (so I could go look elsewhere for a loan in the eleventh hour). Moments later, as I was reaching for the phone to call my realtor to tell her to inform my buyers that we had a significant problem, Sun West decided that my insurance coverage WAS acceptable and that the purchase of my new home could proceed.
  
  Notwithstanding the weeks of aggravation spent trying to satisfy their ever-changing demands, I'm generally satisfied with the way things turned out. I had chosen Sun West after discussions with several other lenders because the terms of their offer were the best I could find at that time. And even though their offer became increasingly less favorable with each new "disclosure" I received from them as the weeks went by, in the final analysis, the deal I got was as good as, or better than, any offer I had gotten - or was likely to get - from another lender, either local or online. And I'm glad I didn't have to go back out and test the market just days before I was due to close on two properties.
  
  At bottom, I think Sun West is a good company and I'm generally pleased with the way things turned out in my case. But there are two important lessons to take away from my experience:
  
  First, think twice before doing business with a West coast lender to purchase an East coast property (particularly a manufactured home in Florida) because the differing rules from one coast to the other may create unintended, frustrating consequences; and,
  
  Think thrice before scheduling two closings on the same day, especially if you ignored my first piece of advice and chose a West coast lender to finance an East coast property. In that scenario, getting documents signed and money wired to where it needs to go can be significantly problematic when half the people you need to work with come to work three hours later in the day than the other half.

  I spoke with Miracle who provided EXCELLENT customer service. She was extremely kind and handled everything quick and professionally. She didn’t make me wait for the other person that left me a voicemail, she said she would attempt to help me since he was not available and she did exactly that. She even provided me with her direct number and extension which I appreciated because she by far provided the best customer service to me from this company.

  Caroline Gerardo is hands down the best loan officer in the country, no question about it. After we had spent over 6 months with 2 other banks, she took on our deal as if it was her very own. She treated our $140,000 loan as if it was a $20 million dollar loan, she is an absolute mastermind when it comes to deciphering a complex scenario. In addition, she has an extremely pleasant demeanor, we never felt like we were being sold anything, we felt like we were speaking with a close friend who just happened to work in the mortgage business. On top of all that, the rate she got us was beyond competitive, especially since she was the only loan officer willing to put the work in to get the deal done! Caroline Gerardo was the reason my family was able to get our home, and I guarantee you she will be the first and only call I make the next time a family member, friend, or myself are looking to purchase or refinance. Caroline Gerardo is truly a credit to Sun West, as well as the mortgage industry as a whole. Thank you Caroline!

  Joshua worked very hard, diligently, and effectively to ensure this process went well and that we had the best experience possible. Mechelle was great too.
  
  There were some things I felt could have been easier but the challenge was that Sun West is on the West Coast and I am on the East Coast, so timing was an issue of getting information or requests that came in to me after 5pm Eastern time.
  
  Communication between Josh, Mechelle and I was good, however there seemed to be a lack of communication between them as I would get the same request for information that was sent to Mechelle, and then Josh would call and ask for the same information, or a third party would call to verify something. It was rather overwhelming feeling like "I just sent that"
  
  The other issue I had was the website that says "Track your loan process" does not allow you to actually log in and follow the process, or I for some reason couldn't track it, which is a great feature and would have been nice to access.
  
  All in all I was thankful for Josh and Mechelle. Thank you Sun West.
