Pretty nice hike. The view from the peak isn't that great and was pretty crowded when I went. On the way back down I came across a MASSIVE timber rattlesnake so beware - they are out there. He was about 3-3.5 feet long and was actually on the trail.

Great place; directions and maps aren't very clear on Google though. Recommend picking up a paper map from the tour center.

Ended up at this winery last Monday. It is a beautiful setting, excellent wine and a spectacular country drive to get there. Enjoy!

Great parking and great view. Only very few spots on the trail were not maintained. Few of the stone stairs were broken and branches were in the way. Majority was great though.

Nice, challenging mountain with plenty of hiking trails decently marked. Plenty of hills and inclines keep the hike quite challenging. If you start from the entrance and hike to the purple trail and loop back, trust me you're in for a killer leg workout.

There are some pretty decent hiking trails for the family here. There are also some good views from the summit. For Maryland, I'll give this place 4 stars however Sugarloaf wouldn't count as a large hill where I come from in California. If you like wine, there is a great place not far from here to have some post-hike libations and fancy snacks.

Lots of great trails, and if you can manage to go on a week day, you'll avoid the crowds of autumn weekends. Parking at the entrance is limited, but there are three more parking lots at the view overlooks near the summit. This park is owned and maintained by a private entity which allows free entrance/parking. Make a donation if you can to continue to keep it free. And no, I am not a member of the private association, but would like to see it remain open and free to public access.
