Wait was a bit long but understood due to weekend rushes. Even though it was a long wait, the food was most definitely worth it. Best pizza I have ever had in Jersey. Their sauce is something special indeed.
The pizza was so delicous. It was crowded but had that comfy sitcom feel to it like everybody knows your name kinda feel. The garlic shrimp bowl had the biggest most scrumptious shrimp ive ever gotten at a non seafood restaurant. It was a little pricey bit just right for a perfect way for me and my fiancee to end a hectic work week. A cozy dinner with a dim lite family atmosphere with a dash of the city life sprinkled on top.
The best pizza in West Orange. Great staff. Cozy place. Comfort food. If you like flatbread pizza this is the place to go. There shrimp bowl is phenomenal. They make you feel at home. This is a must go to place if you enjoy pizza and beer.
They deserve a genius grant for their pizzas. Great sauce, always crispy crust.
Tip: it's seriously crowded after 7. If you are going with smaller children, go around 5. Makes for a great mid-afternoon snack with a beer, too.
best pizza in town and we must visit every time we go back to NJ. They have great hours for the weekends, they close at 11 pm. That was perfect for us. We had a long day. We still made it before they close. The staff was great and bring the order while it is hot. The pizza is made to order. We have never went and not be happy with the service and the food.
Star Tavern is a busy bar and pizzeria in South Orange, New Jersey. There is some parking at the actual building and there is a lot next door with additional parking (which you'll need to use if you go around dinner time). The wait staff is very helpful, polite, and works quick! The atmosphere is very cool and somewhat retro. There are arcade games, booths, plenty of posters, neon signs, and a bar seating area.
The pizza is fantastic. Star Tavern has some of the thinnest crust I've ever experienced on a pizza. The base was super thin and pleasantly crispy. The ingredients were all delicious and I find myself agreeing with Pete Genovese when he calls this the gold--standard of thin crust pizza in NJ.
Rated best pizza in NJ Food is good Great place for families and kids. A New Jersey Icon. People come for pizza soda and a beer but mussels and pasta is really good too. It's a local must got to bar and pizza. Always a kind for pizza take out. Sports on the tv.
Pizza good I need a biger pie to eat its a small I need a large. Size of the pizza 1 - 10 I give it a 6. Taste of the pizza 1 out of 10 I'll give it a 10. Prices of pizza was well worth it. I had pepperoni and sausage more than enough for me and cheese not a lot of sauce in the crust nice and thin
Best pizza I have ever had! Also, love my girls wgho work there; Jess, Diana, and Sara! Shout out to Kev putting in work as well! Best pizza, best service, a NJ staple! Get your butt in here now for their ultra thin crust. I never used to enjoy it until I came here. Go there, now. Now! Stop reading this - go there now!
The workers were awesome, but my pizza's looked old.. Haven't been back since, I was really hurt by this due to the fact I used to come as a kid, so when I took my kid I hoped see had the same experience I did.. Total let down.
Star Tavern is voted the "Best in NJ" for a reason. This is definitely some of the best pizza I've ever had. My boyfriend and I ordered the pizza of the month, South by Southwest: sausage, red peppers, red pepper flakes, onions & tomatillo drizzle. It was ah-mazing. And though their signature thin crust pizza was decked with this medley of toppings, it wasn't soggy. Incredible!
Star Tavern is one of our new fave spot.
Best pizza ever! Doesn't matter which style, but their traditional thin crust, with mushrooms is amazing. Add some scampi wings for dipping sauce and if can't be beaten. The beer and wine selection is a little light, but all the usuals are served with an occasional local selection. Never tried the dessert pie but it looks and smells excellent. Parking is a pain, and the crowd can get large during dinner, but it's usually light for an afternoon spring event at the bar. The decor inside is a little bland, but most pizza places are.
I came here often in the 70's. Great pizza and calamari. Great service, pleasant and attentive. We left at 9:30pm and were accosted by folks hanging around outside the front door and in the parking lot. Really too bad because the food was GREAT!!! We will not be going back in the evening.. Really a shame
An institution. Best thin crust pizza in Essex County. Only issue is that it gets very busy and there are no reservations. Hey there early during my dining hours or call ahead for take out.
Worth the wait!
