I have been shopping at St. Vincent De Paul in Traverse City since 1999. From what I have experienced, I always find rare, unique, and inexpensive thrift goods that are name brand, vintage, and occasionally a needle in a haystack. Out of the two buildings they have been located; that I have shopped- I personally favored the previous red brick building just down the road for it's rustic character and charm. However, the newer location is more organized, cleaner, more visible to traffic, and larger- that allowed them to include a new retail sales area filled with religious and biblical gift merchandise. For the record: Retail prices on used items are much lower than other second hand stores; I.E.: Goodwill, The Salvation Army.etc. Their mission speaks of the best intentions of integrity and giving back to the local community, unlike the chain resell stores that focus on profits. Hours are limited due to volunteers- Although, if thrifting is a hobby you enjoy- they ARE open on Saturday's and welcome lunch-goers stopping in for a quick browse. I don't usually give out my little shopping secrets; but if you are optimistic, open-minded, and focused- you can go in here to hunt down used treasures and come out with a cart-full for $20 if you just look! It's the smaller second hand/thrift stores that will surprise you! I personally donate to this store and Father Fred. I do shop at the other stores, but I end up waiting in long lines, the lights are super bright, and the crowds can be not-so-polite. I spend as little time as possible in the other stores. At St. Vincent De Paul, I feel comfortable, relaxed, I take my time, and never have to wait longer than a couple minutes to check out. Another note: best prices on new religious and biblical gift items too!!! Great for gift giving!

Of the hundreds of resale stores I’ve visited in this half of the United States, this one by far has the shortest working hours of any of them (18 Hours a week). So short that I've only ever been able to make it there once in the two years I've been trying to go there. From what I was able to see in my short 10minutes before they closed, they had a very wide variety of items, about %50 was clothing, the employees we're very nice and helpful, prices were good, and the store was fairly clean, and organized very well. Size-wise, this is probably the largest thrift store in all of the TC area, but I think that Goodwill has more inventory. I'd definitively recommend going here, if can make it there when they're open.
